Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 6/8
Pre-race routine:

Drank some water, gatorade and did some stretching
Event warmup:

Looked at all the people that should be in underwear ads thinking, shit, I am in the wrong sport
Swim
  • 31h 34m 3s
  • 1640 yards
  • 1h 55m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

what the hell?? I freaked out, could not breathe, could not stroke, completely panic mode. Settled down a little but damn.. I can tell you that the sidestroke is just as fast as the guys I was swimming next to.. Had to or I would have drowned. Started in the back of the pack on purpose since I did not want to be stuck in the middle and hold anyone up
What would you do differently?:

Do some open water swimming prior to my first race
Transition 1
  • 04m 25s
Comments:

T1 was good. I will have a tri suit, some spandex shorts or something for next race. I wore some regular shorts and put on a shirt after the swim which slowed me down a little.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, went pretty smooth
Bike
  • 1h 55m
  • 12.43 miles
  • 6.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was great except for the big hill. Being my weight I got passed by many people but hey, I cant expect to pass 180lb'ers.
What would you do differently?:

not much but train more on some hills
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

t2 was fine. stretched a little, had some water and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

nada
Run
  • 1h 09m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

major tightening of the calves about 500 yards into the run. Did pretty good just had to walk/run
What would you do differently?:

train more on the run...BRICKS..
Post race
Warm down:

Water, oranges and cheered the people coming in behind me.. hehe

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not enough training, but first race, I did not know what to expect

Event comments:

great race, but again the hill killed me. Looking forward to next year

Dang - Great job on this race.  I would be the person who was 8th out of 8 in our category (read my race report if you want to hear what a struggle it was for me).  I thought that all three aspects were extremely difficult - by far the hardest course I have done (that was my seventh tri).  Be proud of what you accomplished in your first race - it was an accomplishment just to finish, and it sounds like you were strong all the way!
