Run
Comments: 129 male runners 31 years old didn't complete the run!!! What would you do differently?: Don't know why I can't get it through my dumb-ass thick skull. Have to, HAVE TO, hydrate better on the run. Drink EVERY 5 minutes, or at least every 1/2 mile, to prevent the cramps and back ache experiencing lately!!! Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather conditions (sunny - exceptionally hot (75 by 11:00 a.m. - 81 degrees by finish time)) and training snafu two weeks before the race (injury to right knee from TRT practice). SO dehydrated by mile 12 - had to start walking and mile time rose dramatically from around 9:30 pace to over 11 minutes! Event comments: Great race - no doubt about it. The weather and my training lapse two weeks before the event absolutely demolished my spirit and effort. Never have I know pain like that - why did it hurt to breathe like that? From running? Never have I felt like quitting something so badly. Without a doubt; the hardest, most physically demanding, emotional draining, mentally exhausting event I have ever done in my life! Woke up at 0530, took a shower, got myself ready for the race and took the shuttle bus to the race
1 and 1/2 plain bagels, 1 small banana and a cup of coffee ninety minutes before the start of the race.
1/2 hour of stretching - felt good.
