I recently read "Becoming an Ironman" by Kara Douglas Thom, the compilation of short stories which chronical Ironman newbies as they prepare for and race in their first long-distance tri.

Does anyone know of a similar book for marathoners? Or, any other really inspiring marathon story books?

Thanks for any help...

I also have read it - it was interesting, and taught me lots of things "not to do" on my first marathon.

Yep, that's the one that came to mind for me.  I read it, but it was so long ago I can't remember if I liked it.  I remembered the title, tho, so I've not totally lost my faculties...yet.  Wait, what was your question?

The very first story in the book was by a woman who shares the exact same birthdate as me -- I took that as a sign and started training for my first marathon shortly thereafter.

The rest of the book was equally inspiring.
