Your bike will be much safer in the back seat.   My bike is not allowed to ride outside the vehicle!

A luxury of being in a one-triathlete household...

Most events, Liz and I both are racing and two bikes definitely don't fit in the back of either of our cars...esp. along with two transition bags and a cooler. (The idea of a roof bike carrier and our low garage entrance horrifies both of us though...we have a trunk mount rack, even though my car has a roof rack on it.) I'm looking forward to not constantly glancing back to make sure the bike hasn't fallen off the car on this trip (to say nothing of the better gas mileage due to less wind resistance)...

Ok, Folks,

The car is loaded, the bags are packed, I've checked my list twice - IT'S OFF TO VINEMAN!!!!

Good luck to everyone, and if you see a middle aged guy struggling on the back side of the run, give him a high five, and tell him he looks great......

Dennis

Last reminder about the pre-race dinner at 5pm on Saturday. Even if you haven't let me know... just show up. It looks like right now we've got about 15-20 people who say that they are coming. Should be a good time.

bhoover10001 - 2008-07-14 6:19 PM A reminder about the pre-race dinner at 5pm on Saturday. PM me if you are considering coming (no commitement, I'm just trying to get a feel for how many people might be showing up)

You can also reply to this thread, to let everyone know if you are thinking about coming. I know of at least 2 people who said that they will probably show up.

We'll be there, although neither of us are racing.

But I look forward to seeing all the BTers there.

Oh, and although I'm not racing, I plan on being at the high school (and maybe the river, if I can get up that early) and cheering.  I'll be the crazy one with the pink pompom and cowbell.

WHEW! WHAT... A... RACE!!!!

I don't know about the rest of you, but that half mary course was the most brutal course I've ever ran (compared to all my previous stand alone ones). The hills just kept coming at you!

Run course was the most surprising part of the day, that's for sure...I spent alot of time after mile 3 thinking about how the really big downhill there was going to be a really big uphill at mile 10...

I had a great time...really enjoyed meeting a bunch of BTers for the first time...

(...and watching Bryan sail past on his way in on the run as I was heading out...looking fresh as the proverbial daisy...wow)

A big "ditto" to this from both me and Liz! We really had a good time at dinner...I'm sure pictures will follow quite soon...

And congrats to everyone who raced yesterday!

Yes, Congratulations to everyone who raced yesterday. I was marshalling the Chalk Hill/Faught intersection. I stationed myself about 50 yards up Chalk Hill Road. It was nice to see everyone doing their thing. It was also nice to be appreciated, I got a lot of waves, "thank yous" and thumbs ups. I stayed out there from 8:30 - 2:00 and saw everyone go by even if it was just a streak!

Good job guys and I'll be out there with you next year...

Thank you for being out there! The volunteers were great...I always try to thank everyone at every aid station and intersection and I was so impressed with the number of volunteers out there and their really supportive attitude.

My wife jumped in and donned the "volunteer" t-shirt during my swim and helped with body marking and then--about 8am (after I went out on the bike)--relieved someone marshalling First and River Rd in Guerneville for an hour (she stayed until the last cyclist went out)...I think that was a real special part of the weekend for her (both good--seeing everyone heading out on the bike--and bad--getting attitude from Guerneville motorists).

It's fun to volunteer. Some people need the help and encouragement more than others but everyone appreciates it. Some of them looked thrilled to see me like they had reached another milestone. We had good coverage on that intersection, 3 volunteers and one CHP.

I didn't get any grief from motorists this year and no one missed the turn so I was happy.

I had a blast, if you saw a bearded 30 year old on a black Kestrel KM40 with read and black tri suit, and plenty of road rash scrars that was me.

I tried to thank every volunteer I saw and the spectators, it was fun to see them kinda half clapping and then when you said thank you and waved they got a second wind and you could hear their cow bell a mile past.

First ever triathlon and I did ok, 5:40 and some change.

Had horrible back spasms/cramps and turned a projected sub 1hr 45min run into a just under 2hr 20min stumble. I will do a race report, but will say if the other races I do in the future ar a tenth this well run and fun, I will be a triathlete long after my body has any business doing endurance stuff.

Big congrats to all the other finishers, and Bryan you done good buddy, too bad I didn't get a chance to see you flash by.

I was number 1601.

I had the same view about you that you had about bryan on the run.  I saw you when you were on mile 12 or 13.  You looked very strong.

Please thank your wife--she yelled at me during the race.  I concur about the course and the people on the race--no complaints about anything.  Everyone was very supportive.

Thanks for volunteering. I loved that section. On my practice weekend, I dropped my chain on that hill.   On that intersection you guys were cheering like mad men.  I felt like I was on my own personal TdF.  I got up out of my saddle and cranked on that hill.  The people at the top of the hill were very supportive.   And I thanked both you guys at the bottom and the people at the top!

Nothing new to add here... one extremely well run race with great course support!

Only complaint I honestly have is the fact that it took a good 30 minutes or so to pick up my t-shirt on Saturday, at least for the men it did. There wasn't any line whatsoever for females. Could have something to do with the fact that the race was like 70% men...

She was with me then, we body marked until 9am. On my way to the H.S. I said a quick hello to Yanti(sherpa).I was working the finish line and saw Bryan come in just after all the pros, but I had to leave because all the course volunteers came to help, slightly overwhelming and way too crowded.Great BT get together the night before! Can't wait to read the race reports, the cool weather favored fast times! I'm in this race for sure next year!

I couldn't make the BT gathering , but I yelled 'Go BT!' to someone out on the run course wearing a BT top (or tri suit) when I was running the opposite direction (running 'in').

Last year, I saw 5 or 6 people drop their chain after making that left hand turn. The problem is that as you are coming down the hill it's a blind turn and you can't really tell it's uphill. As much as I could I yelled out "left turn - uphill". I saw a lot of people changing gears immediately. I noticed a huge difference in way the pros and leaders took that corner compared to everyone else. They also hammered down the hill. I noticed the biggest congestion around 10:20 - 10:40 AM. At around noon or so, the traffic really picks up and people had to dodge some cars and trucks.

Of course, the faster you are the better. The faster riders were through my intersection while the temps were still cool and there was no traffic.

This was a fantastic race!  The volunteers were great and the aid stations were WELL stocked.  Loved all the cheering sections and the cowbells.  It was great to meet some of the BTers out there, saw JoeBowler on the run course and TriBabe at the swim start  as well as Yanti and I think Enginerd was out there too.  This race will definitely be on my race calendar again.

Hey everyone! It was an honor to share the course with all of you, well done BT'ers! I posted a RR in my logs. Wish I had a chance to meet you all but was with family and wanted to give them 100% of my time.
