For those of you that use the seated squat machine, do you set the back rest at the 90 degree position (upright back) or the 135 degree position (inclined back)?

I have a good amount of gym experience, but I have never seen a seated squat machine. How do the mechanics even work? I know of squat racks, and machines that you can put weight onto, and then stand up in, but never with a seat.

I assume he's talking about the leg press machine.  I can't say that I use it (prefering squats w/ the bar), but if I had to use it, I'd go with the position that most closely simulates biking in the aero positioning (which I would think would be 90).  I'd have to see the particular machine to be sure, but you should be able to get a pretty good idea just by sitting in the two different positions.

If you are talking about a seated leg press, its not the same as doing squats whatsoever. You work the muscles differently, work slightly different muscles, and the weight does not translate. I would stay away from them unless you are doing single leg presses.

The higher the incline of the part you lay down on, the more difficult the exercise becomes. 90degrees puts significantly more pressure on your knees as well.
