Subject: Looking to buy an inexpensive small women's bike!!
Hello everyone!

I am very new to the world of triathlons...I have not competed in one yet... I am hoping to compete in one in the summer of 2008

I am about 5 feet tall and I am looking to buy an entry-level road bike. I live in Toronto, Ontario. Anyone out there selling a bike? I am willing to spend about $500. I realize that to some of you that sounds really cheap and unrealistic, but I am really not trying to break the bank. I am just looking to "tri" something new!

Thank you for tips or words of advice you can offer.

Congrats on the challenge you put upon yourself. I wish you the best of luck with your training and your first event next year. Some other good sites to look for a bike within your budget:

1)www.Ebay.com
2)www.Craigslist.org
3)Local bike shops take bike trades in and sell them
4)www.Roadbikereview.com

I purchased my first bike on ebay. I would also suggest going into a local bike shop and getting sized for various brands. You want to make sure you get a good fit.

Good Luck!!!

I am also 5', and had the hardest time finding a bike that fit! I settled on a custom frame ( 44cm), but I would encourage you to keep looking at the classifieds and craiglist, there are short people and small bikes out there!

What about Bikes Direct?  Here is a link.  44cm $395.00 and it's new.

Thanks so much for your input, it's greatly appreciated.

One of my concerns with bikedirect is the cost that will be added because of shipping, customs, and excange...I live in Canada!!

I should probably email them and ask them.

Thanks a bunch,

Murielle

How about this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-K2-T-NINE-JETSTREAM-Small-New_W0QQitemZ370...

it's the same bike my wife has. It was originally sold at rei and is currently on their rei-outlet site:
http://www.rei.com/REI-Outlet/product/760663

This same seller sold this same bike in a different size for $350 plus $45 shipping a few weeks back:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=37000714807...

This bike has great parts like shimano 105 deraillers, vision handlebar, carbon fork. If you have any questions about the bike let me know. Also, at the rei outlet site they have the bike dimensions under "bike sizing chart".

edit: If you need some sizing help I can measure my wife.
