Pre-race routine:

I felt pretty crummy this morning. Just ate a piece of toast and some coffee. Got myself ready and left at about 9:10 am.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Stood in line (twice) to register. I left my pre-filled out form in the car, so had to hunt one down and fill it in again. Got chipped and walked to the start with Dudley and Mike.

Did not try to "race". I was just out there to get it done because otherwise chances are I wouldn't have done a thing today. After about 1.7 miles, I was feeling good so I picked up the pace and tried to maintain it. It's a good motivation to pass people, which is what kept me going. I walked the water stop so I could get 2 cups of water in me. I'd started the race wishing I'd drank something other than coffee ahead of time. Let's just say I didn't approach this run with many brain cells working. But I didn't feel particularly thirsty at all during the run. Maybe it was the snowflakes blowing in my face that satisfied my thirst? I also didn't need to use the wad of paper napkins I'd stuffed in my pockets ahead of time. I was sure I was going to have several bobbystocks stops along the way, but that wasn't an issue. whew..... Around mile 6 or so, my ankles were getting a bit sore, but it wasn't too bad.

I listened to music most of the time, so that was a huge help in getting me through this.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure I'd do too much differently because I didn't approach it as a "race." It was nice to run hard, but not so hard that I felt bad the entire time! I really enjoyed the run!
I should have drank some water before the start, though.
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged an extra .83 mile to look for Mike and Dudley. They ran a really good race! I was SO relieved to see Dudley still running away, instead of being driven by in an ambulance! :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ha! Let's see! Extra poundage, too much crap to eat, not enough training, the list goes on and on really.

Event comments:

Yellow Jacket always does a nice job. Very organized, lots of runners, it was a nice atmosphere and a great way to get the year started!

Nice job for a long run on a cool day when you weren't really "racing". Under 9 minute pace is great.
