Feeling a little beat up today after yesterday's slugfest against the wind.

Short run with some coworkers. Nice to get out and just be social! We even did a bit of trail running. My brand new, WHITE shoes are all muddy. Awesome.

That little run brought me over 160 for the month. Oh, yeah. Feelin' good.

A few notes about yesterday's ride:

1. The Giro Air Attack is an awesome helmet. I love the fit, the look, and the visor. That being said, the visor allows air to come up from the opening and the wind pummels your eyes for the entire ride. If there's pollen out, then you'll finish your ride with bloodshot eyes. The ventilation is not great, but it's adequate. I think it could get hot and stuffy at a long, hot race, though.

2. 30mph winds are NOT fun. It's scary when they're coming at you from the side, especially with 404s or deeper wheels, and if they come at you straight on, it's like climbing a huge, very steep hill. The plus to that is that on the way back, I was FLYING.

3. I used UCAN for this ride. Energy level was fine throughout. A friend secured some samples for me. Hunger was a bit of an issue, but energy was not.

4. I felt very strong on the hills. I don't know if it's all the training I put on the bike this past winter, but I was zipping up them like I have never done. I did try to stay in a power range, so maybe that helped.

Long ride today and it's cold and windy. Will head out around midday to hopefully get the warmest part of the day.

Wow. Windiest day ever. I almost got blown off my bike quite a few times. A few times, I was riding into such a strong wind that I was barely going 5mph at a hard effort. Even rode a few times at a 45 degree angle b/c the damn wind was coming in so hard from the side. HATE IT.

Goal of this ride was to keep the watts average between 170-180. I need a few more rides like that in April.

Early morning run in a light rain. It was awesome.

Used UCAN for the first time. No opinion right now, as I don't normally eat much for this distance. I did feel hungry towards the end, but I admit I didn't eat anything for breakfast before the run except for a protein UCAN. Energy seemed fine throughout. Planning to use during tomorrow's ride and that should be a better indicator.

So, almost 160 running miles this month. Legs feel better than expected, although a little tired.

Feeling better today. Sinuses are congested, along with a few other allergy symptoms.

Will try to get a bike in today, and maybe a short run afterwards.

Shit hit the fan at work today and I'm tagged to fix it...doubt I'm going to get any type of workout in...bah.

Man, feeling ALOT of resistance with my workouts lately. I just don't know what the heck...

No workout during or before work, but wife and kids were out when I got home, so did a quick loop around the lakes. Kept it very easy and lost myself in thought. Kept thinking about IMTX and how I'd feel during the run portion.

Interesting that I've run almost the EXACT amount of time and I was a little more than one mile faster this month. I guess that's what you want to see from month to month, no?

Still have a little bit more of running left for the month. :)

Wicked Wednesday

Man, hard bike this morning. This is the first time I've had time to complete the entire IslaGiatt workout. I really like it, but it's extremely tough.

Swam during lunch. Coach gives me a B+ on technique. I'm working to correct the rising L arm and head bob issue. Getting a lot of feedback, which is awesome. I am going to try to get 3 hard sessions a week from here on out.

Finished the day off with a run. Good day overall. Expected to be fatigued for this workout, but actually felt great.

First set avg - 3:05; Second - 3:10; Third: 3:15 --> Base Pace = 1:35/100yds

Ah, glorious sleep. Went to bed last night before 10P and slept until 6A. I need a few more nights like that to catch up.

Coach had us test today to establish base pace. I def. went out too hard in the first 3x200. Based off test, my base pace will be in the 1:30-1:35/100 yards. Converted into meters, that's aprox 1:45 per 100. The goal over the next 2 months is to bring that pace down under 1:40/100m.

Coach identified a few flaws in my stroke that can be fixed with a few drills. First, left hand is coming up, rather than down, when I'm reaching. She stated that's adding resistance to my stroke. Second, my head is not steady. I'm moving it around a bit. That, too, is adding resistance. Third, my hips are sinking a bit. That was easier to correct that than the other two.

I've ordered the LG Course and the Giro Air Attack helmets. Going to give them a try, and getting rid of the one I do not want.
