Keep surprising those muscles!!

August 19

Bike after work today. Will fast forward friday's rest day to today. The legs aren't feeling very good and some old friends are in town so we'll find some nice place to have dinner.

Run
  • 1h 02m 45s
  • 11.44 kms
  • 05m 29s /KM

Easy steady run
I felt like I was much closer to 5min/km... weird.
Anyways, I'm feeling better everyday while training in the heat. That's the important thing for now. That way, if race day is hot, I will be in an environment that I know and will be able to adapt better.

Bike
  • 1h 11m
  • 34.45 kms
  • 29.11 KM/hr

Easy bike, included a little crash just to see how it feels. ;)

Rolled on a rock while doing a fairly agressive U-turn. That destabilized the whole thing and sent me to the floor. Nothing major. I have a little road rash on an ankle bone and some small bruises on the hip.

mini swim!

Mandatory rest day. The leg are a bit sore... wondering why?? lol

Now that I had fun tearing it appart, would someone be kind enough to clean the whole thing and put it back together?

Race rehearsal day for the marathon
Silly long run on a stupidly hot day! The heat index was closing on 95F when I came back. Time does not include a 2min porta potty stop and another 2m to refill the fuel belt.

First Lap: 1:19:50, avg hr: 157
Second Lap: 1:22:30, avg hr: 168

I tried to eliminate as many variables as possible to replicate race day as closely as possible. I had the race day breakfast 3h before going at 9am (an hour later than the actual race, but I wanted to get the hottest part of the day), was wearing race gear and would try my nutrition plan. Notes for race day: a gel every 25m will be all right, do NOT forget sunscreen and nipguards, the new NB 1063 will be used on race day (no foot pain worth mentionning or blisters whatsoever, great!)

First lap was all right, there was still some shade on the course and the pace felt very good. Second lap, there was nowhere to hide anymore, just like on the race course. Champlain Blvd is cruel when its hot and sunny. Anybody who was there last year would agree. I decided to try to keep the pace steady and see how I would react to the heat. HR increased significantly, but I could hold the pace. It would have been impossible to complete the marathon at that pace though. The stomach started showing some signs of unhappiness at about 2:15 but nothing major. Glad I did the experiment, but would not repeat tomorrow.

I'm on my way to the pool so I can cool down a bit more. :)
