2013: They call me "HILDEBEAST"....

February 27

A big bunch of NADA over here today.... so sore and fatigued.  I'm sore ALL OVER!!   So it is definitely a rest and recover kind of day, but I'm planning on a nice easy run tomorrow morning, we'll see how THAT feels!  I'm actually most looking forward to a swim...

Run
  • 2h 17m 10s
  • 13.32 miles
  • 10m 18s /Mi

These are Garmin results... official results show the run was 13.1 , of course, and 1 second faster. (Which would put my pace at 10:28/mile). In any case, this was a PR by about 30 seconds over my December HM, and was 9 minutes faster than last year's Cowtown on the same course... so I thought I ran a good race! Kept pushing, not TOO hard, but enough that I wasn't holding back at all. Started feeling it around mile 8, made it up the hill from mile 9-10 and brought it on home. The finish line seemed to be further away than it was last year, so I TRIED to bring it home strong, but ended up pushing too early, but at least I ran through the finish. Took in an energy gel before the race and at mile 4 and mile 7.75, and opted not to take one at mile 12, in hindsight, I wish I would have. Walked through water stops, but very briefly, other than that, ran the whole thing. Beautiful chilly morning, bright sunshine, and I actually got a little warm here and there, but overall was dressed just right. Had a great time with Tammy Tucker and 1st time HMer, Connie!

Rest day, pre HM.  Kids were absolutely CRAZY today!!  Weather was almost 90 yesterday afternoon and about 50 this morning and WINDY... TGIF!!  Can't wait to get on the road tomorrow!  Called the hotel to check on our reservation and they couldn't tell me which hotel we would be at??  So we have to report to the hotel we made our reservation at and then we will see.  They did make it sound like they would comp us our room if we are forced to go to the other hotel.  Looking forward to a good dinner out and then just getting out there and running!!  Looking like the weather will be great running weather... 40ish on Sunday morning, high is 64, but we should be long done by then, so hoping to see mid 50's at the highest... can't tell about the wind though, hope it isn't crazy bad!!  Still hoping for a PR....

Phew~! I gotta admit I was a bit worried after my last sucky run, but today I am pumped up... really felt good and with 2 rest days I know I will be in good shape! The new energy gel seemed to work well too... went down nice and easy, not as thick as the Gu Chocolate Outrage. Felt really peppy and could have pushed faster, but tried to rein it in a bit so I didn't burn out the legs. Would LOVE to be able to hold this pace for the entire race!! So this is it, no more training until AFTER the race! Time to start carb loading (actually I started that last night with some cookie dough!! Ha ha!)

So the plan was to get up and run 2 miles this morning... head was totally stuffed, figured I would feel better after school once I'd been up awhile.  Get in my car to go home and it's 85 degrees out???!!!  Stopped at the grocery store and the local sports store and bought some new energy gels that have mega ballistic caffeine in them... haven't tried them before and nothing new on race day right?  AND I really don't want to be up all night tonight, so I am making today a rest day and will get up to run my 2 miles in the morning when it's 55 out and I can handle the caffeine!  Also bought a decongestant I will be taking from now till race day to try and empty out this huge snotty head I have propped up on my shoulders.  I am definitely feeling the taper week aches and pains, just feel sluggish and yuk!  Sure I hope I pick up some pep before Sunday!!

Ugh, awful run, legs felt like lead the whole time, never did feel warmed up. Just kept chugging and am very thankful that the race is not tomorrow!!
-----

Well I had planned to get up and go for a swim this morning, and woke up and half of my head is congested... no sign of a cold, just all stuffed up... only half my head.  Decided not to push it and rolled over for some more sleep.  Easy 3 mile run on tap for the afternoon.  I have 2 more swims on the plan, tomorrow and Thurs, might have to back off on those too, surely don't want to be sick for Sunday's race!  Gotta get back on track with the diet too, cheated 3 days and weight is up...

The hotel we're staying at for Cowtown called yesterday and they are overbooked.  Asked if I would be willing to stay in their sister hotel which is a mile and a half further away from the race site.  Now I made the reservation Oct 17th... and this is the closest hotel to the race start and it is a mile away... I was quite a bit pissed off and said NO, I do NOT want to stay in the other hotel, I want to stay in the hotel I booked.  I ended up calling them back later in the day, turns out they have some international group staying with them, using 30 rooms and they just extended their stay for 2 weeks, so now they are short 30 rooms for Cowtown.  They cannot guarantee that I will be in the original hotel, we may STILL get bumped to the other.  Something about being a Marriott rewards member or not, which I am not.  The new hotel will have a cheaper rate and have shuttle service, but I'm still not happy about the whole deal.  That's why I made the reservation EARLY!!!

Hope to have a fairly easy day at school, two grade levels are going on Field trips, so that means 2 one-hour breaks!
