Although there was a mixture of mist and rain out, I was able to easy manage the trail run at Pawnee Prairie Park in shorts today. The trails were mostly slightly damp, but a few areas were pretty muddy. It felt nice to hit the trails again, and I felt fairly strong during the run. My plan is to get a few easy miles in this evening with the GoRun crew.
The weather was unseasonably warm during the run (maybe upper 40's?) and it felt nice to meet up and run with the GoRun crew. I wasn't sure how my legs would feel this evening after my trail run today, but I felt pretty good during the run. I'm really going to miss my winter break and all my free time to get some nice runs in and be able to nap and recover from them as well. I'm also really enjoying training for my first ultra and ignoring time and pace altogether and just running at whatever pace my body feels like and/or whatever pace the group or my running partner wants to go. I'll probably take advantage of my time off and run with Megan tomorrow while her car is in the shop.

Megan and I decided to start our run from Exloration Place today and run along the river. For me it was a very enjoyable recovery run and it felt nice to take it easy and run with Megan while we are on break together. While running today I spotted another eagle near the river and was able to point it out to Megan. One the way back I showed Megan the wood chip trails by the red bridge and we were able to do a loop together. We finished up our run at the Indian and for the first time we were able to read all the plaques in the area. My plan is to hit up the trails at Pawnee Prairie tomorrow and then maybe go run with the GoRun crew in the evening.
Things went alright at yoga tonight at the Y. We tried a few new positions that reminded me just how inflexible I am.

Since I didn't get to run yesterday, I set out today to get in a long run of roughly 14-16 miles. I agreed to meet my wife and my in-laws at Mead's Corner Coffee House today at 12:30, so left home roughly 2 hours before that. It was a fairly nice day to run...a little chilly, but the sun made it bearable. While heading north I felt that I had drastically overdressed and quickly shed my hat and gloves, but when I headed south again, I really noticed the chill and put my hat back on. I thought it was strange today that the river was white and full of ice. It looked almost as if it had snowed all over it, but nowhere else. While running by the river today I saw 4 or 5 bald eagles soaring in the sky. One got within 30 feet of me and I got a great view of the majestic bird and it's wingspan. It was like the great white shark of the sky. I've seen eagles before, but this was my first time seeing them so closely on a run. Very Cool!

I thought I'd take advantage of these Oklahoma hills while here and go to Hafer Park in Edmond for a nice hill workout. It was pretty chilly out today and the north wind made things more difficult at times, but I'm glad I was able to get out and get a workout in today. I thought the hills were great training for psycho wyco as well. As I was finishing the run I noticed some snowflakes coming down, but I doubt it'll amount to anything.

Decided to hit up the trails at Pawnee Prairie Park today but decided to bring Megan along to give her a taste of it. I was feeling really good today but decided to hang back and escort her safley through the park. After last night's weather the trail was damp and muddy in some sections, but I've seen it much worse.

The main goal of the easy run tonight with Megan was to find the hidden troll along the river. Thanks to the advice from Winston and Randy, we were able to almost run straight to it. I can now say that there is INDEED a troll in Wichita! We ended up running this evening along the river and planned to finish our run by 7:00 to watch the "ring of fire" at the Keeper of the Plains (no not the Johnny Cash song...although it did play in my head). During the run we ran down the river toward the Hyatt and explored the new apartment/condo complex near there and then jogged downtown and visited Megan's dad while he was volunteering at Mead's Corner. At the start of our run the weather was wonderful...maybe in the upper 50's with a slight warm breeze from the south, but towards the end of the run the wind had shifted to the north and the temperature started dropping rapidly. After watching the "ring of fire" we headed home and put on some warmer clothes then headed back out for a couple more miles together.
