Pick Me up Day!

So the goal today was to run 4 miles before the gym opened and then go swim. I went out and did an easy 4 miler. I was feeling really good so I decided to skip the swim and get another 3 miles in doing "Pick me Up's." Basically a Fartlek. Increased about every quarter mile with a quarter mile normal pace.

I am taking a deeper dive into my goals this year.  My sister was going to get married on the same day as the Louisville Ironman.  She is no longer getting married on that day so I can sign up for it if I want to.  However, I am not sure I want to this year.  It just might be too much.  I think I want to concentrate on the Half IM and my running.  In any case, this is going to require some time to think about what I want to accomplish this year.  My number one goal is a BQ.  Not sure when or how but I have to quality for Boston for 2013.  I have a lot of friends going in 2013 and I want to go with them to race.

On my spinning bike in the basement. Just a way to loosen up the legs after the Saturday run.

I met the Tri-N-Run team out for dinner. Talked about the team's goals and such. It was a good time.

IT was the best weather we had all year and we had our smallest group. Ironic. In any case, I ran with Peter, Travis, and Lance. Well, sort of ran with Lance. He took off with 4 miles left to go and took his time down to about a 7 min per mile pace. Travis went after him with 2 miles left. Peter and I were very content doing our consistent pace. Great run today. Next week starts the track Ugh. I am not sure I am ready for the last 2 miles of our run being on the track for time. I am not where I should be at this time.

You never know who you are going to meet in this life.  A couple years ago, I got on a thread right here on BT.  Meet some really nice people and found out a lot about them.  One such person was Lena.  She was training for her first marathon and had a quick wit whenever she wrote.  Well, as time went on, everyone on the thread found out that she makes these fabulous cakes.  I was having a party for my girls and thought a special cake would be a neat idea.  I asked Lena if she could make me a cake.  Of course she said yes.  It took her days if not weeks to complete it all but she did and the cake exceeded my expectations.

The cake was the hit of the party.  I had neighbors come over just to see the cake.  The kids loved it.  No one wanted me to cut it.  It was funny when I finally did cut into it.  It was completely silent.  I felt like a doctor performing surgery.  I got the top two tiers off without any problems.  We were able to eat most of the top two tiers.  The cake tasted better than it looked.  It was incredible.  We sent everyone home with cake.  A big Thank you goes out to Lena for spending all that time on a cake for my girls.
