Don't Suck

Rode with Adam from REI down the South Platte trail and back. Not really sure about distance. It was a little cold in the beginning, but fortunately we had the wind at our backs on the way back in, which definitely helped. Very glad I went out and got in a decent workout.

Nothing special about this workout, just getting in the water. I did 500 w/u, 10x100, 300 c/d and felt pretty strong the whole time. Best I've felt in the water even though I've only been back swimming for about a week or so. I also decided I should learn how to do flip turns so I messed around for a little bit at the end and trying to learn them. It wasn't pretty and I pretty much failed miserably. I'll have to keep trying for a while.

I'm the only one in the office today which is kind of nice, but I have a feeling the day will also go pretty slowly. There's only one thing that could happen that could make the day turn into a mess but I think everything's aligned so it won't. Other than that, I'm paying bills, doing my expense report, and have a couple calls to return and that's about it.

Tonight is TBD.

Met Scott at CC Res and did a couple laps there and then out to the park on the other side of Monaco, back to the Res and one more lap. Still some spots that were pretty snowpacked and we had to be careful riding across or get off the bikes. Otherwise, it was a great day out there and good to have someone to ride with.

Have the day off work. I have about a week of vacation that I need to eat up by the end of the year because none of it rolls over. I'm also supposed to have off on the 28th and 31st and the 24-27th, which is when I'm going home. Other than that I'll be eating about 4 vacation days. Need to remember not to let that happen again next year.

Supposed to be pretty nice out today so I'm riding with Scott.

Sport
  • Stretching
  • 45m

Nothing exciting tonight and probably not worth logging. I did some stretching to loosen up my right hip and back and then some easy core work. Felt better when finished so I guess it served its purpose.

Not sure what I'll do tonight. Possibly go back to the pool, or maybe another run. Some things are pretty tight but I'm hoping they loosen up during the day.

Run
  • 20m
  • 2.18 miles

Just an easy, slow run to see how my foot felt and how my back held up. Foot felt fine while running and no issues from my back. After the run while walking the dogs I could feel some strain on the outside of my foot in generally the same place as before. I'm guessing it's not healed all the way so we'll see what happens. I may try a bigger run tomorrow if there are no problems in the morning and everything still feels fine. My HR on the run was pretty high; not sure of the avg.

Not really sure what I'll do tonight. I've been in the water the last 3 days in a row. I could reasonably go again given that my swim needs the most work, but it's also the night for aquarobics, which means odd swimming hours. My trainer's in the shop getting fixed, and I fixed I hopefully mean replaced. And I've been reluctant to run yet. All that said, I may go for a really short and easy run (like 2 miles) tonight to see how it feels and how my body responds, and then do some core work and stretching. Not a real exciting day of workouts, but better than nothing.

500 w/u, then 2x(200 drill, 200 pull, 200 pull with paddes, 200 kick, 200 swim). Didn't do the pull with paddles on the second go through b/c my shoulders were starting to get fatigued and there's really no reason to overdo it with the paddles. The intent was just to change things up so I didn't get bored.

Who would have guessed that even a weekend of normal workouts and not eating like a complete slob would help dump a pound or two? I was pretty tired from the workouts when I went to bed last night, and even when I woke up this morning. Was a nice change; like I actually did something. I'm still a little cautious about running right now, but will probably do that mid-week, which means I'll get back in the water again tonight.

Dusted off my old hardtail MTB and rode with Adam on his cross bike. We started at Aspen Grove, went to Chatfield and rode the Titan Road loops and back. He kept going after that; I stopped to keep it pretty easy. Felt pretty good to be on the bike again and just to do something in general. Pretty nice day out there too. Better than I expected.

Went for a pretty easy swim after the bike ride. Just wanted to get in the water and keep my back loose in case it decided to tighten up after I got off the bike. Hasn't happened yet, which is good. Did 400 w/u, 200 drills, 200 p/b, 200 p/b with paddles, 200 kick, 300 c/d.
