Olive Chapel - Tody Goodwin

I felt good on the bike today but not strong. I must have a bit of late onset post-race fatigue going on (yes, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).

It seemed windy for August.

I think that I'm going to look at some road bikes today.

I test road a Trek Domane 4.5 for size (54) at Cycling Spoken Here and we talked about the Domane 5 and 6.  They don't have a lot in stock right now.  TrekWorld is next week and they'll order more after that.  If I went this route, this will probably be a year off.  There is nothing wrong with my Madone -- just that technology has moved on and I'd kinda like a new bike.  I should probably have test road the 2012 Madone after riding the Domane.  I went to the store saying I want a climby bike for things like 3 Mountain Madness, what do you recommend as opposed to, I have $x to spend, what do you have.

I also stopped by TLC in North Raleigh.  They do all custom stuff.  It sounds great but I'd really have to know the details of what I want in order for them to build it up for me.

Orthotics consult:  I had my consult today.  He had me walk back and forth barefoot and said that I have forefoot varus which basically seems to mean that I walk on the outside of my feet.  Then he did the casting.  This was done in done in subtalar neutral position -- with me laying on my stomach as he placed the casting material around my feet one at a time.  The casting process took about 20 minutes.  The final part of the process was a short talk about the orthotic material.  He said that he was not going to recommend an "indefinite" orthotic for me due to the distances that I am running.  He wanted something that was not quite as hard for me.  Instead, he is putting me in the "shocker" material.  This set of orthotics should last me a year or two.

AM: RnR Savannah.  OK. I want to do this event but it seems stupid to spend that kind of money to go out of town when we have a half marathon in Raleigh the same weekend.  What to do? What to do?

The whole schedule planning thing makes my head hurt.  Makes me want to drop the whole half marathon idea and do Cycle NC instead.  Or maybe just a lot of local riding like the Habit Halloween ride (10/27), depending on weather since it always seems to be awful for that ride.

I know.  I know.

PM: OK, so I thought about it some more and I talked to Kevin again.  This is where I am regarding the schedule.  When I signed up for Vineman, I said to myself, "Good!  Lot's of fall cycling!"  So do I even want a half marathon in my fall schedule?  I think that I do but...  And then I looked at the Rock n Roll site and I felt maybe less enthusiastic about it.  And Kevin said something about going to the beach and going to the beach might be more fun that going to Savannah.  I mean, we could do both but I hate to board Emma that much.  And there is the half marathon right where I work that same weekend.  So right now I think that I should do the City of Oaks half marathon or bag that I idea and ride lots.

Physical Therapy:  Jeff want a post-Vineman follow up.  My right hamstring is still tight and we did some work on that.  The hamstring tendon connector in the hip by my sit bone is where I feel it but when working it the tenderness is actually mid muscle.  I am to continue to do yoga stretches (down dog, warrior and pigeon), continue to do the belt stretches, and continue to foam roll.  And I am released from PT with the advisory to see a massage therapist every 2-8 weeks.

Orthotics:  I have a consult to get orthotics.  This was recommended in PT as a good preventative measure.

But I don't want to be back at work!  Waaaah!

I've been working on What's Next and giving it a lot of thought.  It's been difficult because I want to do everything so narrowing it down has been kind of a chore.  This is what I have so far:

  • Bike MS
  • Wilmington YMCA Sprint at the end of September
  • Rock N Roll Savannah half marathon on November 2 -- but I kinda want to do Rev3 Florida the weekend before.  And I kinda want to do Cycle North Carolina the first week in October.  I had to pick one and we went with Savannah.
  • Myrtle Beach Marathon on February 16 -- but I kinda wanted to do Bone Island half iron in January.  I looked at the mileage and it's 1000 miles each way.  Bummer.
  • Gator half iron distance tri on March 24
  • Beach2Battleship full iron distance tri on October 26

Anyway, we'll see what Coach says when she weighs in.  (hahaha! Coach said, "This list looks like it can’t possibly be everything that you are thinking….. "  She knows me too well!)
