I headed off to the gym with the expectation that I would be just doing some weight lifting, but as I passed by the pool I noticed that there was a free lane open. Eureka! A rarity indeed in the morning. The Masters team comes in at 6am but they are supposed to leave one lane open for general use, and that lane was going to be mine. I felt good in the water and I decided to do a timed 1000. I was a little disappointed in my time especially since I was really pushing my effort. I think my flip turns are partly to blame - I feel like I'm getting very weak pushes off the wall lately - perhaps I need to pay more attention to my technique on that front. I followed that up with a set of 100s. Midway through my set an older gentleman jumped in my lane and the Masters coach proceeded to give him a private lesson. I didn't mind but I got the impression that I was getting in their way. So I got out after my set, skipping my cool down. So glad I could get a swim in. I love starting off the day with a swim workout.
Long, stressful day at work. Exhausted. Thought about skipping the run. Didn't. Run went well. The end.

I was planning on riding outside, but my wife was out doing her weekend long run, my daughter was napping, and I had nothing important to do. So I hopped on the trainer. My wife got home mid-ride and I probably could've headed out then but I kept at it inside.

What a great morning for a run. Got up earlier than I would for a weekend, but I wanted to take care of this first thing. Lots other stuff to do today. I drove out to Indian Creek Trail so that I could have a needed change in scenery (my usual routes have gone stale for me). Lots of runners out today on the trail too, and that always puts me in a good mood.
I started out at an easy pace and just got faster as I went. I nearly negative split every single mile. This wasn't by design, I just found that as I kept running I had enough in me to keep pushing harder. The fastest two miles were my last two, both sub 7. Very encouraging.
