Up and at 'em for probably my earliest outdoor ride ever. I had a long day ahead of me with my daughter's mid-morning birthday party and then a trip to Topeka for a wedding later in the day, so I was trying to fit something in today. Nothing special here, just another out and back trip to New Century. Considering the heat of late the temps weren't too bad early this morning.

Swim
  • 22m 04s
  • 1667.76 yards
  • 01m 19s /100 yards

I took an off day from work but it was a busy nonetheless with various projects and errands I had to get done. The water in the pool was very cloudy, which is first for this pool as its usually crystal clear.

Run
  • 43m 24s
  • 6.07 miles
  • 07m 09s /Mi

A tough run. I was doing OK for the first three miles, but after that it was a struggle to keep going and not do more walking than I did (stopped twice on the way back). Lotsa people out early this morning looking to beat the 100+ degree temps that will be coming later in the day. It was about 77 when I went out and ran.

Up and 'em for an early morning run. I woke up after having an odd triathlon related dream (perhaps getting up early to train was messing with my subconscious). I was out the door and discovered that some things never change. It is still hard to get my legs moving first thing in the morning. They just felt heavy the whole time. Pushed through and get it done regardless.

So, since it looks like it is going to be 90-100 degrees every single day for the rest of the summer (or at least for the next two weeks) I'm thinking I need to swap days on my usual Tue/Thurs bike sessions with my Mon/Wed runs. I can more easily run in the early morning hours of T/Th than on M/W and thereby I can avoid the lifesucking heat I'd be facing after work.

Maintaining the current theme for the week I went out on a short and not too serious bike ride. Just trying to get back into a regular training regimen. It wasn't too hot yet, but it was already fairly warm and the wind was pretty decent out of the SW. My route was out to New Century and back. I fought the wind on the way out but I had sweet tailwind coming back. That was fun.

I cut the ride short by a little as I rode over some glass towards the end. A short while later I heard a short but loud pffffttt. I figured I had a flat so I just biked it home since I was close. Once I arrived I discovered I had no flat at all. Tires were fully inflated. Huh. A little odd, but good news I suppose - no tire to change.
