Today I would have normally done a bike session, but I instead took it into the LBS for some basic maintenance (which is apparently free since this is my first tune-up since purchasing the bike from said LBS - Score!). Spent the evening reading, watching the Olympic coverage, and resting my legs.

I just didn't have it in my legs this morning, although the mind was willing. No power or push in them at all. I also had a bit of a bathroom emergency too. I thought I could make it home, or at least to a port-a-pottie at a construction site that is a mile from my house, but nope. I got within a quarter mile of that but things were already coming into motion. Luckily I was able to duck into a field and hide behind a large construction backhoe that was parked out there. Second time something like that's ever happened.

On the trainer. After I started I noticed a slight ticking noise coming from my bike. After being unable to ignore it I started fiddling with my bike trying to figure our where it was coming from. I think it's because my chain is a little stretched and its sliding down onto the cogs abnormally. Well, by the time I determined what I thought the problem was I had wasted a bunch of time and just decided to call it quits after the 10 mile mark.

I felt like crap this morning, like I had a hangover except without the headache. So, I didn't run in the morning and decided to try again in the evening. When it came time to go it was still 96 degrees outside prompting me to chop my run in half from 8 to 4 miles due to the heat (and being on my feet all day with house chores). Took it easy and made some planned stops to settle my heart rate down. After I was done I was completely drenched. Time to hydrate.

Did a loop out to 199th & Metcalf from my house. The ride started out well enough but somewhere around the half-way point I really started to not enjoy the ride. No real reason, but first I started to get uncomfortable in my saddle. Then I headed up Lackman and completely forgot that it was closed at 183rd, so I had to back track and that annoyed me. After that I kept hitting stop lights on my way into town and the clipping, unclipping, and getting up to speed was wearing on me. I was just in a bad frame of mind in general, but I made this as quality as I could.

After a bit of a break from my ride I headed to the pool to make up my missed swim from yesterday. I found out yesterday that the pool was going to be closed for a week starting Sunday for maintenance, so I had to make sure I did this, otherwise my swim training would look even more sorry than it has been. Nothing fancy, just broke up my workout into 3 different 500m sets.

Pleasantly surprised with how well this went. I was expecting to be a little uncomfortable in the 90 degree and humid weather. Plus I about dozed off on the couch about a half hour before I went out. All this had me expecting to be taking a few walk breaks here an there. Instead I felt great and only stopped at my turnaround point and to get a drink of water at a park water fountain. I am really glad to have a good run like this. It's been a while since I've had a quality run to feel good about. Good confidence booster.

There were some lingering rain and lightning passing through when my alarm went off at 5am - just enough to convince me to stay in bed. We'll try again in the evening run.
