8k of this is my race today, and the other mile is my jog from the car to the race start. It was far enough that I'm logging it, darn it!

Race day today!

Bike

  • 16.60 Mi/hr

Short trainer spin to loosen up the quads a bit after BodyPump.

BodyPump

Dumb, dumb, dumb. The squat and lunge tracks were the really hard ones today and my legs were rubber at the end of the class. Not very bright on the day before a running race.

500m WU

I couldn't keep track of all the splits, but I know the last one was 1:37.

So, no workout last night. Again. Argh!

I was a good wife, though, and didn't say a word while at the bar (where I knew about two people, and couldn't relate to a single story they were telling during the 4 hours we were there, and had to sit next to a woman with the most obnoxious laugh in history), but I kept thinking to myself, "ok, if we leave soon, I can make it to the Y for a good run," and then "ok, if we leave right now, I could still squeeze in a short run," followed by "is 10:00 too late to run outside now that the Y is closed?" and finally, "ok, forget it." It was nice that the husband could catch up with all his old college pals for a while and celebrate the life of their friend. I only met her once about 2 years ago, but she was very nice. She would have been 43 yesterday.

Planning on a swim and run today.

March 15

Today is going to be another challenge completely crappy (from a food and exercise standpoint). A good friend of my husband's died of breast cancer in November. Today is her birthday and there's a gathering in her honor tonight at her favorite restaurant. I hope that we'll get home in time for me to run tonight, but maybe not. I should have gotten up this morning and ran before work, but that would have required planning ahead. :-/

0730: wwheat toast, pb
1130: work lunch pizza (not my fault! Damn them! only 1.5 pieces)
1530: Slim Fast High Protein bar
1630: FiberOne bar
1900: bar nachos, six glasses of diet Coke

2045: FiberOne bar (pre trainer ride)
2215: grapefruit (post trainer ride)

March 13

Today in all likelihood will be a rest day. My daughter and I are planning to go to the Timberwolves game tonight. I've never been to a pro basketball game before.

0630: banana
0715: wwheat toast, pb, apple butter
0930: FiberOne granola bar

Run Speed
Speed/Efficiency
20
20' run with 6x30" strides. These are best if done on a slight downhill on a dirt path. Warm up for at least 10' before the first stride. For your recovery, you can walk back to the starting point. Strides are quick bursts that are as fast as 5k pace.

(This was on a treadmill, not outside, and I didn't walk to recover; I just ran slower.)

Sport
  • Spinning Class
  • 25m

Today was supposed to be swim and run, but since my daughter called me just this morning from school to tell me that, oh, by the way, she has a choir concert tonight, I was in the high school auditorium during the 1.5 hours of available lap swim. So it was run and spin instead.

0715: wwheat toast, pb, apple butter (350)
0945: protein bar (150)
1230: leftover goulash (300?), yogurt (80)
1500: orange (60)
1715: carrot cake (400; gah! and this was the Cooking Light recipe!)
1930: 2 mozzerella sticks (200; yeah, I know; nice dinner)
2030: lettuce salad, carrots, cherry tomatoes, italian dressing (150); 5 reduced fat wheat thins (50?)

Est. total: 1740
