Hwy 87 out and back. Felt good to hit the road for the first time in weeks. It was a beautiful day and we were relaxed and talking as we rode. And we saw cows! Four times! So we did the obligatory "Moo" at them. I was thinking to myself that this is the first time I've truly enjoyed a bike ride! I was cruising along effortlessly at 18+ mph totally relaxed and in the groove. It was SO nice to be away from the hills of Plank road for a change. We planned 40 miles, so we prepared to turn around at the 20 mile mark.
Then it happened. We turned 180 deg and that was the end of our relaxing, effortless, 18 mph ride. All of a sudden we could no longer hear each other to talk without yelling. The wind gust deafened us and we could barely pedal forward into it. Our speed dropped from 18 to 12! I held the handle bars with a death grip as I tried to move forward, but the wind was so strong, it seemed impossible to go 20 miles back to the truck. Ughhh!!! But what goes out, must come back. So I zoned out and just went with it and eventually we made it back. All I can say is thank goodness for drafting!

Lunch Hour - Picked up my meds, popped a pill, pulled on my running shoes and ran what was left of my lunch hour.
Trainer - Aero base I Spinerval. All small chain ring.
The good news is that I can resume training! The bad news is that I have arthritis in my knees. 
I'm still shocked and never would have suspected that's what it was. I was convinced it was an overuse injury that needed rest. Ah well, my path is in front of me not behind me. My guess is that I'm not the only triathlete with arthritis. To be sure, people race with far more challenging conditions than this. Moving forward...
