The Kure Beach Double is swim, run, bike, run, swim, with 4 transitions.  Since they do not have enough chip mats for this crazy format, there are T times included in both of the swims and both of the runs, skewing those numbers.  The bike is the only leg that does not have a T time included. Everyone complained that the swim was long.  I was wearing my Garmin 910XT, and it appears to me that swim was pretty close to 545 yards from shore to shore.

Not my best performance, but I'm just glad to be back to the business of racing.  Actually, I'm not cleared by my doctor to be running yet; my appt is June 6.  I did have hamstring issues during the race, but hopefully I can work that out myself.  Overall time was 1:40:07.  Last year I did this race in 1:21:38, which would have gotten me 2nd AG this year had I been able to PR.  But having an injury all Spring really killed my fitness level.  Back to the drawing board!

Fayetteville Area Tri-Warriors at the Finish Line.

Went to Carolina Beach for a practice swim.  Wow, the water was ROUGH!

Off work to head to Kure Beach!  We first stopped at the Serpentarium in Wilmington, then went to Flaming Amy's for lunch, then packet pickup, hotel, then Carolina Beach for a practice swim.  Busy day!

I let the new Garmin completely die and my old Garmin is not charged, so I had to use MapMyRun today. I like that I can listen to my music and the App interrupts every couple of minutes to tell me my pace/distance etc. But most of the time it was saying my current pace was 11 min/mi and I KNOW I was running faster than that. The average pace was believable but the current pace never seemed to be right. I'm going to use the MapMyRun together with my Garmin next time to compare. I know it lags, but being completely wrong is another story. How can my average pace be less than my current pace?

I didn't plan on going over 3 miles, but I went back for a penny that I saw on the road and ended up finding two. I have a strange pet peeve or compulsion that makes me feel I cannot leave coins on the ground once I see them. I HAVE to pick them up. it drives me insane if I don't.

Tried the Garmin 910X at the pool today, but I cannot load the data until I get home.

As soon as I headed into the pool area, I lost satellites and thought it might not work, but it picked back up.

It seems it'll work great once I learn how to use all of the features. My lap data is not correct because I inadvertently hit the start/stop button rather than the lap button on a couple of intervals. Once I get used to it, it will be quite useful. Today it was only useful in solidifying how badly I suck at swimming :-(

Oh great. And I just realized it is still on, so it is now showing a 2 hour swim. Well, I'll load it later anyway and see what I've got.

2 X 450
150 that got lost because I hit the stop button instead of the lap button

Wow, I have been counting laps with a rhyming sequence for A, B, C, D, E for SO LONG, that I don't think I can swim a lap without singing my rhyme! But this thing counts yards and I really won't have to singsong my silly rhymes anymore. I can let my mind wander if I want and not have the constant task of counting laps!

Hmmm... the swim workout will load to Garmin Connect, but not to BT.  It's funny anyway, because I left it on when I went to work and it shows me walking around the parking lot and into the office.  Time elapsed was 2 hours and it shows an average pace of 7:22!  But it truly does show the intervals and rest breaks for the laps that I did correctly.  It is missing 25 yards.  I know I did not stop and get out on the opposite side of the pool, so maybe I hit the button before I finished the full lap and it did not count that lap.  Interesting.

Oh, and the minute I walked into my home office it immediately started transferring the data all by itself!  As soon as it knew it was within range of the PC it did its own transfer to Garmin Connect.  Cool!

First run with the new Garmin Forerunner 910XT! It's pretty easy to use if you are already familiar with Garmin. Had to figure out how to upload it because it is done wirelessly after pairing it to the computer with an ANT stick.

It vibrated every mile, which I really liked. Heart monitor seemed to work fine once I got it paired.

So far, not much different from what I'm used to, but the new thing will be using it for swimming! It is also much smaller than my old forerunner and has a 20 hour battery life, but I better NEVER need more than 17 hours!

Still having some leg issues, but I think that will improve with time, flexibility work, therapy, and strength training.

My MP3 died about 1.5 miles into the run and since I was close to the house, I decided to stop and get my iPhone and Ironman Yurbuds. I've not used them much yet, mainly because I am resisting change, but I'm better off to keep my phone with me when running and let it double as an MP3 player. I need to get used to the Yurbuds too.

Once I got all situated and headed back out, I realized I was running in my thuggish neighborhood with a lot of $$$ worth of gadgets on me! Yikes!

Got chased by Chico and his new friend Rico.

Put Pixie and Dixie on Tiny Roo and pumped them up. Then it proceeded to downpour. After the storm, I decided to go for a quick spin in my neighborhood. The first couple of miles were just piddling around making sure everything was okay. Then I went to the neighboring subdivision which isn't much better for riding, but at least a little bigger than my own area. There was a lot of traffic and stop and go, but at least I got to test it out.

Heading to Raleigh with a U-Haul to get my son!  He'll be home for two weeks before moving permanently to Rocky Mount, NC.  His apartment won't be ready until June 8, so we cannot move him directly there.

Even though he has not lived with me for a few years, the empty nest syndrome is REALLY kicking in now that he is graduated and starting his life as a wage-earning adult.  (sigh)
