...Cheetah in Training...

July 27

Um.... I guess you're not supposed to taper for a whole week before a Super Sprint?  My training bar is looking pretty thin this week. Frown

Blah... was unable to run this morning. Could not even manage to hold a 10 pace. The humidity bogged me down and I was overly thirsty. I drank up all of my water too soon. Since I wasn't feeling it and I had a late start, I decided to take a short cut back home.

Next week the College goes back to regular hours, so I won't have to be at work until 8:00 a.m. (rather than 7:30 during the summer). This will help with the longer runs and swims.

This is a recovery week and I've REALLY been slack.  Part of the problem is that my bike rides got rained out.  I know that is no excuse not to go to Spin Class or get on the trainer.  I've stayed out of the pool to allow my sinuses to clear up, and they have.  MUCH better now.

Tiny Roo waited in the car for me yesterday after work.  The sky had been perfectly clear all day; all day up until 3:00 p.m.  Then a MONSTER storm came with thunder, lightening, and high winds, and we were told not to even leave the building. Thankfully by 5 p.m. it had let up, but still too nasty to ride.  Did I do the right thing and go to Spin Class at the HealthPlex?  No.  Did I go home and jump on the trainer?  No.

I went home and curled up with a glass of wine and the thoughts in my head...

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”

Woo and Hoo took off on me this morning!  Or maybe it was the photo I happened upon yesterday.  I LOVE this photo!  Now THIS is how to run. Like happy carefree children.  Their smiles are infectious.  That's how I like to feel when I am running.  Happy, playful, and carefree.  Woo hoo!!!

I've decided to give up swimming, at least for this week.  I have a terrible case of swimmer's sinusitis and I simply cannot face that vat of bleach water right now.  I swear I'm going to turn into an Albino from chemical exposure.  I can't take it anymore; I've got to have a break away from it.  And that's all I have to say about that.

Rockfish out and back with Pete.

Note: Do not ride in the draft zone of someone who is carrying pepperspray.

I gave Pete my pepperspray for in case of an emergency because I had no pockets to put it in (I usually wear Tri clothes rather than a cycling jersey). I have been chased by dogs MANY times, but have never used my spray. To me an emergency is actually being attacked, not spraying a dog for barking at me.

Two big dogs gave chase and next thing I knew Pete freaked out and was swerving while trying to spray the pepperspray. I was like "whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't do that!" That spray was blowing back right on me! Thankfully I only felt it on my arms and legs, and not in my face because we were 90 min. out and I would not have wanted to ride 90 min back with burning eyes. When we turned around, I asked Pete to just calmly keep biking by them and carry on (But I really wanted to snatch that pepperspray from him before turning around!). On the way back, the dogs did take chase again, but this time we just kept moving and they ran along beside us. I am always amazed at the speed dogs can run! They glided along effortlessly at 17+ mph for quite some time before they finally gave up. They were having FUN! I bet they sleep good tonight...

Brick off the bike. HOT HOT HOT!!! My legs felt fine off the bike, but the heat was pretty nasty. Felt like "White Lake Bake." White Lake is a local race that is known for its HOT runs.

(Sigh) I fell short this week; just could not keep up with the training plan...Frown

Treadmill - 60 minutes at RPE 3.

Felt like I could run forever today. A coworker came over and chatted me up for the first mile. She said, "How can you carry on a conversation while your running?" I hadn't even realized i was just a chattering away while running.
