Swim at the Healthplex. They open 30 min. earlier than the YMCA and the water is not so hot. They've also designated all lanes for lap swimming during the early hours (no more classes at the same time). And to my surprise, Pete was actually up and ready to swim early.

Solo Rockfish out and back. My legs felt weak from last nights spin class and the wind was horrible. I parked at the park on Lindsay and headed out. The winds were really throwing me around but when I turned onto Phillipi Church road I had a wonderful tailwind! (or so I thought). Traffic was at a dead stop for road work ahead and after waiting a few minutes, I decided to turn around and find a different route. So I followed Pittman Grove into unknown territory and the winds seemed unforgiving the entire time. No matter which way I turned, I never felt like I got a break from it. (sigh) I followed that road until it dead ended into another, then started the ride back. The best part of the ride was making a right turn onto Will Monroe road and seeing the contrast of the dark clouds over the light clouds. A storm is on the way, and I don't have much time to get home! I finished the ride, got home and hit the shower. By the time I got out I could hear the downpour outside. I was thankful I got the ride in when I did despite the disheartening winds.

Started the week with a run in the hood. Temperature was perfect but humidity was high so I wore a Tri top to stay cool.

Spin Class. I did an easy spin for the first 30 min since I got there early and class does not start until 6:00 p.m. Todays ride was an endurance ride; LOTS of time in the saddle. Ughhh.

Rockfish out and back.

Rockfish out and back with Pete.  We took a different turn this time and I spotted a stone marker in the trees.  It says it marks McPhaul's Mill and Tavern where a skirmish took place during the Revolutionary War. I wish it were still open when we got there!

We also found evidence of aliens.  Crop circles!!!

Riding through a tunnel of corn out in the country.

3 Little Pigs triathlon.  The day started off on a sour note when race directors allowed swimmers to swim whenever they wanted rather than at their designated seed time.  This threw everything off for those who were expecting to start at a certain time; I ended up starting about 30 min. late due to those who cut the line.  However, once in the pool, the swim went well with no real hangups.  I passed two people and no one passed me.

I grabbed Roo, but when I got to the mount line I could not clip in!  I had shoes that I don't normally wear, and although I did test them out earlier in the week, they seemed disagreeable today.  Shortly after I started, I heard a hissing noise.  Oh no, a tire!  The road was too bumping to tell for sure, so I elected to pull over and check rather than risk my race wheels.  They were fine!  What the heck?  I took back off and heard the hissing again, but after a few minutes it stopped (seems something was in my wheel making that noise and blew out).  I was making good progress until my chain dropped of on an uphill locking up my crank!  The chain fell off and got stuck between the cassette and the back fork.  I had to stop, loosen the skewer, put the chain back on, tighten the skewer, then get going back up the hill.  (sigh)  I could not remember for sure if the course was 14 or 16 miles ( I was thinking 14).  Then I saw the sign for 13 miles and next thing I knew I was back at the bike in.  It caught me off guard because I did not expect it so soon and I passed the bike dismount! Volunteer support was not very helpful at the bike out and bike in, so it was a bit confusing both ways. Had to go up and turn around and finally made it back in.  Whew...

The run was fairly uneventlful.  I felt okay for the first half and was running about 8:25 (which is what I had hoped for).  But I started to fade in the heat.  Again, the volunteer support was not very helpful, but I made it out to the turn around where there was no chip mat.  Seemed it would be easy for people to short the out-and-back without a chip mat at the turn around (although I truly believe athletes would not do that).  I made it to the finish and hung out with teammates until times were posted.  I was shocked that I was 3rd AG.  Then I saw that I missed 2nd AG by a mere 6 seconds (probably the amount of time it took me when I passed the bike dismount!).  But I was very happy to bring home a pig trophy.  Too cute!!!

I brought home the bacon with 3rd place AG!  A pig trophy!  Ha!

Ready to swim with a few of my teammates.

Easy recovery run. I was low energy after not getting enough sleep last night. I lost all of the contacts off of my iPhone and I was trying to figure out if I could recover them. I ended up staying up WAY past my bedtime! ... and never did get my contacts back (pout).

My MP3 player died part way into the run, so I took it off. Later I saw a city bus drive by and ALL I could think about for the rest of the run was... "The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round; the wheels on the bus go round and round, all through the town!!!"

Another lovely sunrise as I turned back into my neighborhood.
