The Great Blueberry Revolution - 2012

April 5

Was going to run but holding off until tomorrow and try for a longer one.

Sport

  • 32m

Calf was still sore so Patti and I went for a 1.25 mile walk around the lake trail.

April 2

Rest day!  Was going to ride but the wind was gusting to 30-40 mph, so not very conducive to staying in a straight line and out of the traffic.

Run

  • 2.00 miles
  • 14m /Mi

Went a little further today, wanted to shoot for 2 miles and see how I felt. Still bothered by that sore calf muscle, especially on the uphills, so did a lot of "run for a few minutes, walk for 20 seconds" and repeat. Still feel pretty out of shape and carrying these extra pounds isn't helping any. On a scale of 1-10, my stamina level is about a 2, so I guess it can't get a heck of a lot worse. Not giving up though, just keep plugging along. Still feels like I have something like chronic fatigue or mono or whatever, even though the doctor said there was nothing wrong at my last visit, and nothing showed up on my blood test. Have another appointment coming up in early June, so I'll continue to see if I can lose some weight and keep up an exercise routine and then see what she says.

March 31

Rest day, which should help that cramp in my right calf to finally go away.

March 30

Run
  • 17m 30s
  • 1.50 miles
  • 11m 40s /Mi

2nd half of the Thumb Butte loop. After power hiking to the summit, I ran down the easier and longer trail back to the base. Running downhill did not bother my calf as much.

Sport
  • Hiking
  • 19m

Hiked up the very steep north side climb to the top of Thumb Butte. It's about 0.8 miles of relentless steep uphill, with an elevation gain of about 700 vertical feet in that distance. Rested for about 20 seconds before running down the 1.4 miles of the easier trail down the west side.

After returning to the car at the end of my hike/run, I met two young ladies in the parking lot who were (get this) using juggling clubs and tossing them back and forth.  They were pretty good at it too!  I got to talking to them about it and mentioned that I had taught myself to juggle years ago, except that I was limited to round objects like balls or bean bags which is the preferable way to learn, since they don't roll around when you drop them (practice over a table to avoid bending over to pick them up).  The women told me that there actually is a Prescott Juggling Club that meets at the local college on Monday nights.  They suggested I come to a meeting and join.   I think I may have found a new thing to help waste my retirement years!
