I probably don't need to check my morning resting heart rate to know that I am overtraining right now. I had to skip my core class this morning after yesterday's 14 mile run knowing that I have a time trial tonight and big miles planned for Sat/Sun. I can feel the volume of training from this week and am looking forward to some down time. I can't tell if I am training enough on the run, my run yesterday was hard (even for a 14 miler).
Did the 12 Mile Time trial and felt terrible from the start. My legs were toast but I was only off my pace by 30 seconds from last week. I need my off day (Friday) to get ready for the long, hilly rides of this weekend.

Woke up at 5AM to get in my 14 mile run today. What a beautiful morning and perfect temperature (55-60 degrees). I decided to do 3x 4.7mile loops instead of a usual long 10 mile loop plus a 4 mile loop. I needed the shorter loops so I could support my water and nutrition needs. Not many friends want to get up that early to set out a water bottle:) Something is wrong with the fact that I ran 14 miles and now I have to go to work for a full day. Anyway, at mile 10 my right hip started to really hurt so I had to do some run/walk and stretching. It might be a IT band or hip flexor issue. On to work...

Core workout class at 6AM. Did Ladder drill where we ran a 200, rested, then ran 2 x200, rested, then ran 3 x 200, rested, etc. all the way to 5x200, then back down. Then we did planks, etc at the end of class. Good class and I felt good the whole time. My core is definately getting stronger. Regular planks are no longer an issue, even for 60-70 seconds with good form!

Did the Damn loop with a "short-cut" up City Park Rd and Courtyard. The average speed is not indicative to the brutality of the hills. The weather was humid and hot and the hills were steep. After going up Mansfield Dam, then a short recovery down 2222, we took a right on City Park Rd and then a left up Courtyard and two straight-up long hills. After the decent back to 360, we road back up to Bee Caves. I had a hard day, especially after yesterday's hilly ride. That's ok, cause Buffalo Springs is coming soon...

Swam at Barton Springs in my new(ish) T1 wetsuit. Felt really constrained for the first 400 yards and then started to relax and get settled. The middle part of the workout was very fast as I was passing people all over the place and felt very strong. Then Christine showed-up and swam 800 before we got on our bikes and tried to catch the back of the ATC 30 mile ride. The hills were fine and I felt fairly strong throughout the whole ride. I didn't have time to run afterwards. This turned out to be a good thing in hind sight (See Sunday's training log).
