Retired 3x Ironman

Recovery day today. I feel good today, not sore, but tired. I think the heat and humidity of CapTex took more out of me than I thought. Of course, the beer last night probably didn't help my body. It sure helped my mind:)

Went for a 3 mile jog with 3-5 pick-ups just to get the blood flowing in my legs and not over do it. CapTex is tommorow and I am finally getting excited about pushing it hard. Packet pick-up and bike drop-off is today, so I am off to dial in my wheels and pack everything up...

Taper workout instead of Open water swim and 30 Mile hill ride.
Today, I went to Lake Pflugerville and swam easily from one side to the other. I have no idea how far it was. Then I turned and tried to sprint back. I am guessing that it was a total of 1500 yards. The wind was in my face on the way back and was kicking up some chop. Good practice for Monday's race (CapTex Olympic). I then did a quick change and went all out for and out-and-back 10 miler. The wind was fierce and I only averaged 20mph but my effort was great. Quick change and on to the trail run for an out-and-back 3 miler. I went really hard the first 1.5 miles, then turned and coasted home. I didn't want to push too hard with the race 2 days away but I needed to get a good, intense, workout in since I am skipping my normal 80-100 mile long ride on Sunday. Tomorrow is bike drop-off and I plan on doing a short, but intense, run (1.5-2 miles) with several 30 sec pick-ups, just to get the heart rate up and spin my legs.
Race season is finally here. Man, was I tired of just training!

Recovery Day!!!!!! Actually, I might go do an easy swim. I think I am recovered from overtraining last week because I am starting to want to go hard again. Last week I couldn't wait to be done each day. Good thing since CapTex is on Monday.

Time trialed again today but at 80% effort, still maintained a 19 mph pace. Must have been the race wheels and clean bike. I pulled out the race wheels and dialed everything in anticipation of Monday's race. I felt good but not great so I am going to skip Saturday's ATC Hill ride and go do some flat sprints and swim in Lake Pflugerville.

Ran 6 miles today with my neighbor, who is naturally faster than I am and somewhat new to running. Good run but we were both huffing and puffing up the hills on my 6 mile loop. He would be good for my shorter fartlik and tempo runs. His pace is too fast for my longer runs, in training. However, it was a good run at race pace and good timing since CapTex Olympic is this Monday.
