was even later then usual getting in the pool b/c Susan was there and I needed to talk to her about marathonfest. at least that's the excuse i'm going with today.
I could really feel that I've been sick as everything was a bit more labored then it should have been.
Also, this will be my last swim workout for a couple of weeks as I head to England and Ireland on Friday!!!

This is a good news, weird/bad news morning. My hamstring seemed to be pretty good when i started this run and my cold is gone enough that i wasn't completely gassed, but the calf on my opposite leg was in PAIN. Every step I took was agony. This happened once before during the time I was doing "test" runs and it took about .5 mile before things loosened up and I could run cleanly. This time it did not show any signs of easing. After 1 mile i stopped at home and changed from my zoots to brooks to see if a more stable shoe would help. It didn't. I was reduced to walking many times. Finally, with about .5 mile to go it eased up. It wasn't great, but it was doable. It also allowed me to pay attention to my hamstring as when the calf was in such pain it overrode any hamstring issue. Once i could pay attention to it I noticed that there was some soreness, but it was better then it was on Sunday. So I am encouraged by the hamstring, but baffled by the calf. I really would like to get back to the days when I was able to run without thinking about anything!

I don't know if I should have done this run or not, but i am tired of waiting for my hamstring to stop hurting, so I did it. The hamstring was sore, but it didn't really hurt like it had in the past. I definitely knew it was there and was not happy, but it didn't seem to impede my stride. What did affect my stride was my complete lack of run fitness and my cold. I don't know which caused me to struggle the most, but i'm hoping it was the cold as that will be gone before my fitness comes back completely.
As soon as I got home, i iced the hamstring, so hopefully I can keep running and this 3 miles didn't set me back.
