Couldn't get my HRM to pick up my HR. I hope it doesn't need a battery. Grrrrrr.

Spent the first 10' in Z1, but let the music carry me away during the middle part of the ride. It was a Linkin Park anger evening. I always feel so much "lighter" after these sessions.

At any rate, It was supposed to be 10 min Z1, 30 min Z2 and then 10 min of Z1. It turned out to be more like:

10' Z1
35' Z3-4
5' Z1
-------
50'

It felt good, though. There's something about hammering away on a bike going nowhere...

Sort of a biggish day today... Today marks the 3 year anniversary of my Dad's death. And yesterday marked the 2 year anniversary of the end of my abusive marriage. ( I don't celebrate that milestone...I just became suddenly aware of it in conversation yesterday )... So much has changed! My Dad would be happy to see me now. And actually, it was my Dad's passing, my best friend's triplets, and other more insignificant events throughout the very end of 2004 and all throughout 2005 that helped me work up the courage to get out of my marriage. I saw life going on around me. I saw people's lives changing and evolving, and I realized I had to take charge of my own life so I could change and evolve in a similar way. Not blindly follow. Not stay stuck. Not stay stagnant and repressed. I was missing out on my true potential as a woman. As a person.

I'm closer to that potential now than I have ever been before. Kiss I hope my Dad is proud of me.

Think you are in an abusive relationship? This is one of the best "diagnostic" tools I've found on the internet. Every situation is different, of course. But start here: www.youarenotcrazy.com

8:06 AM: I just found a $10 bill in my pants pocket! Thanks, Dad!

Swim
  • 1h 12m 28s
  • 3350.00 yards
  • 02m 22s /100 yards

Lots 'o' Drills.

Crinkly this AM because I was shuffled around between 5 separate lanes today. I don't know why I couldn't just have stayed with Pete and Chris. So instead of swimming with people that are a bit faster than me, I'm swam with people who are a bit slower than me. This lane, that lane... Irritating. And all that lane jumping takes extra time.

Anyway:

300 warm up
6 x 50 drowning potato drill
BREATHING LADDER
50 Breathe every 2nd stroke
100 every 3rd
150 every 4th
200 every 4th
250 every 5th
300 every 5th
GASP. That was tough. The key was to slow down and focus on the breathing.
2 x 25 couting DPS. (Unfortunately for me, I swam this with stretched out arms...) Got a 15 and a 16.
THEN:
300 @ 15 strokes per length
250 @ 14 strokes per length
200 @ 14 strokes per length
150 @ 13 strokes per length
100 @ 13 strokes per length
50 @ 12 strokes per length
REEEEEEALLY had to stretch that out. I probably swim more like 17-18 SPL normally. Shouldn't have stretched out those 2 25's.
300 Kick
2 x 75 IM/Free
150 Easy Free
----------------
3350

Up at 5:04 AM today for a little Master's swimmy. Am determined to be ON TIME today so I can get a decent lane.

A little note of appreciation... traffic has been, despite the weather, remarkably light and quick moving the past couple of days... to and from work. For that, I am grateful. Laughing I have a long commute, and on the days I make the lights... it's so much quicker!

Run
  • 30m
  • 2.14 miles
  • 14m 01s /Mi

I'm logging this under "RUNNING" even though there was an awful lot of walking involved. There was some running... so that's gotta count for something.

10' walk
8 x 100m run easy, 30" walk between
10' walk
-----------
30'

Felt good. Felt fine. No issue from the knee. Am going to ice it nevertheless... just to be sure. Ice Ice baby. Couldn't hurt, might help.

Now doing core exercises at home. Will log those in a moment or two.... Done! Now going to relax for a minute, fold some laundry and get my ass into bed for Master's in the AM

General core = balance plate. 20 toe touches "around the world"

So today, I make my triumphant return to "running". Starting much slower this time, as starting even moderately quickly wound me up on the injured reserve list for 3 weeks. Jeez. So... today we have the following:

10' walking + 8 x 100 yards run (walk 30" between) + 10' walking. Then upper body weights.

I'm pretty sore from lifting/swimming the other day. Triceps especially. And dare I say I think my leg muscles are sore from walking 3 miles yesterday? WTF?

Am considering some Newtons. I'd like to try them, and I am encouraged by their 30 day return policy, because it takes about that long to determine if shoes suck or not. And Newtons are too expensive just to "keep-and-wear-around-for-fun" if they suck. They would go back in a millisecond.

Any thoughts/ideas re: Newtons?

Just sos you all know... I realize my limitations and deficiencies as a "runner" and I'm not looking to this pair of rather over priced shoes to turn me into a competitive racer. I am looking, rather, for something that will make running more interesting, easier, perhaps less painful on the old joints and generally more comfortable. I don't know if these shoes can do it... or if some other shoes can do it... or maybe no shoes can do it... Just gathering info... I've done a fair amount of reading up on these things, and the opinions are very DIVIDED....

IN OTHER NEWS... Look at this hotness:

Niiiiiiiiiice. Go Dumpster Go!

I walked the Lifetime Fitness Reindeer Run.

So very very very difficult to WALK when you want to be able RUN, however slowly... I kept seeing BP's email... "under no circumstances should you run..." and I kept wondering what circumstance I could devise to make running OK... I couldn't think of one. Hmmmmmmph.

I was able to pick off most of the other walkers, though. Come hell or high water, I was not going to let any of them actually finish ahead of me. One by one, I passed them, and I'm pretty sure I was one of the first "walkers" to cross the finish line.

I walked pretty fast, and my knee is a little sore. Icing.

Saw my ex-husband again. He keeps popping up at all of these races. Undecided We didn't part on BAD terms necessarily, but if we were on GOOD terms, we'd still be together. (!!) So it's awkward enough to be... well... awkward! And it irritates me to see him wear my U of I hat when he didn't go to U of I... I did.... he's been wearing it every single time I've seen him since we got divorced! Just strange.

The ex and I didn't speak as I don't have any reason to say anything to him. Chris said he saw him looking at us... and at that point I suggested to Chris that we start making out... but alas, we both had jammed free Jimmy John's sandwiches in our mouths... Heh. Tongue out Food first.

Grainy, but you can see Chris, me, Schmize and the very corner of Kelly's little face. She's hiding behind the eventual winner of the race, Mr. Red-man.

45 minutes!

Excitement at it's peak!

Actually, it will be a bit more exciting once I get a TV and a DVD player downstairs. I can catch up on some shows, instead of shuffling the hell out of my iPod.

Todays' Playlist... quite RANDOM!

  • No Rain (Right where I left off after last time!)
  • Top of the World (All American Rejects)
  • In Bloom (Nirvana)
  • Jackie (Sinead O'Connor)
  • Broken (Jack Johnson)
  • So Long So Long (Dashboard Confessional)
  • Rapt in You (Lowen & Navarro)
  • Air Force Ones (Nelly)
  • Mistress (Disturbed)
  • Wishing Heart (Lisa Loeb)
  • The Best of Me (Lowen & Navarro)
  • Torture (The Replacements)
  • One Wink at a Time (The Replacements)
  • Supposed to Be (Jack Johnson)

  • I have ONE Jack Johnson CD on my iPod and it keeps popping up on shuffle over and over and over again! Also pretty heavy today with Lowen & Navarro?

My faves = Sinead O'Connor. Love The Lion & The Cobra CD. LOVE IT.

I'm also a huge Replacements fan. So I was happy to hear them... 2 in a row! :)

Forgot to do the pullovers. Dangit.

Now doing core exercises at home.

45 minutes on the trainer today... and then upper body weights. And then we are headed to an IronMan party. We are supposed to get a blizzard in very short order here... so I don't know if the party is going to happen or not... or maybe it will happen... just not with us! Surprised Depends on the roadways. Check out the radar. Doesn't look good.

See that big blob of white and pink? Yep. that's a bunch of snow. And it's right over Chicago!

11:58 AM: The snow is falling. It's blowing sideways. EEEEEEEEEEEEK.

2:35 PM Wow, I just noticed since I linked the radar picture to a website and not to my album, it's been UPDATING!! On it's own! Smile We are now in for some ice pellets, according to the radar...

Swam in the lane-against-the-wall with Vik. Slow off the walls due to the therapy chair in the way... once people started leaving the pool, we were able to switch lanes... Bah.

Forced Vik to do the long set. He was not happy about that and left early. Hmmmpf. ;)

I have goggle eyes. I wore my "Ice" Socket Rockets today, and I think they are a wee bit too tight. They are new and I've only worn them once before... The chlorine needs a little while to work on the elastic bands... Loosen 'em up a bit... Laughing

Here they are.... Nice, huh? They are metallicized and they don't fog! Of course I still hock a loogie in them prior to schwimmin. Heh.

    November 29

So today is actually my recovery/rest day. Tomorrow another Master's nightmare. Surprised

Will spend today at work preparing my application for another position... I want it to be airtight. The commute may be even LONGER... but the position is better, more flexible, and less stressful. Money is the same.... but there *MAY* be the opportunity to work from home from time to time... and it's in the field I've been trying to get into... Education, Training, Learning and Development. We'll see.

12:08 PM It's finished! Now I just wait to see if I get an interview.
Gettin' schtuff accomplished around the Palace...Thought THIS was funny, though...

I'm hoping hoping hoping I can run again soon. I ((dare I say...)) miss it. Or something. I miss it or something. There. I said it. Hmmmmpf. Knee swelling has improved 100%. My leg looks and feels normal. I wore a skirt to work today and high heeled boots. I had been avoiding both items due to knee pain/swelling. Avoid no longer! I'd like to start running next week. I'm not going to go back to the doctor. I was only instructed to return in 3 weeks if the swelling didn't go away... and it did.
