Staying Injury Free!

May 17

Was hoping to get a workout in -- even brought my bike, but work had other plans for me.  Can't do anything tonight due to Cub Scouts, so....

Plan to swim or get some time on the trainer tomorrow morning...

Good, short run at lunch on the WO&D jammin' to Peter Gabriel.  Cool and overcast, and the run felt GREAT.  I knew I was going to do a short 5K or so so I opened it up to my race pace....  felt good and strong.

No soreness at all in the knees tonight...

Swimming in the morning with my TnT buds (whomever pulls themselves out of bed at 4:30!).

This is a guess at distance esp. since we all treaded water out in the middle for a few minutes and shot the breeze...

My first open water swim at Beaverdam Creek Reservoir in Loudoun County! Absolutely awesome to swim without turning, without having to worry about anything.  No major problems with sighting once I figured out how often to do it.  Swam with my TnT coach and about half of the Memphis TnT team, so it was a great confidence builder.  Was in a great groove -- my HR was in the mid 130's every time I checked (I normally am in the 140's in the pool).

Plan to do this every Saturday with Tri-energy Multi-sports/Sterling (have to use their permit since it's a closed reservoir)!

Followed this with a brick on the bike and short run with my TnT buds.  This was a transition clinic run by our coach, a dry-run for Memphis next week.  As the average speed attests I felt great on the bike -- hadn't ridden in several days and missed my old friend....

No prob in the bike/run transition, was out within about 55 secs from the bike... The transition to the run was easy... I don't anticipate any great issues next week at Memphis...

  • 39m 12s
  • 1700.00 yards
  • 02m 18s /100 yards

An EZ jump-in-no-warmup 1x1700 to stay loose.  Felt sluggish at first, but got my groove around 750 yds and was consistently hitting 65-70 secs per 50.

Brought my running gear and will try to get 30 in during the afternoon.  Full day with visitors so not sure how it will all work out...

8 days 'til Memphis!

A perverbial work day from hell.  No chance of swimming, so will try to get my Oly distance swim in tomorrow as well as a 5K run.
