Snug run... I am getting better but I still feel the verve-nerve!

I bought Dolly Parton's Greatest Hits at the flea market on Sunday... yeah I know, it is no secret that her voice is a national treasure, I just wish the "new" country stations would get it too. Regardless, if you haven't listened, really listened to this voice, do so. I hope that in my lifetime I get the opportunity to see her sing live. Wow. Until then, understand that this bumpkin with boobs wrote this song (among many others): Coat of Many Colors Back through the years I go wonderin' once again Back to the seasons of my youth I recall a box of rags that someone gave us And how my momma put the rags to use There were rags of many colors Every piece was small And I didn't have a coat And it was way down in the fall Momma sewed the rags together Sewin' every piece with love She made my coat of many colors That I was so proud of As she sewed, she told a story From the bible, she had read About a coat of many colors Joseph wore and then she said Perhaps this coat will bring you Good luck and happiness And I just couldn't wait to wear it And momma blessed it with a kiss Chorus: My coat of many colors That my momma made for me Made only from rags But I wore it so proudly Although we had no money I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors My momma made for me So with patches on my britches Holes in both my shoes In my coat of many colors I hurried off to school Just to find the others laughing And making fun of me In my coat of many colors My momma made for me And oh I couldn't understand it For I felt I was rich And I told them of the love My momma sewed in every stitch And I told 'em all the story Momma told me while she sewed And how my coat of many colors Was worth more than all their clothes But they didn't understand it And I tried to make them see That one is only poor Only if they choose to be Now I know we had no money But I was rich as I could be In my coat of many colors My momma made for me Made just for me

Urban Assault Miles (Fixed Gear Bike)

To 24 hour fitness for a swim, then after the gym I rode around and hit Wash Park for a few laps (It is like Malibu out there - so many hotties) and then hit Whole Foods and then home.

Run
  • 22m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 09s /Mi

Treadmill:
Well my injury is still an issue, BUT... I ran the best that I have since the marathon. I started out in the low 8's and worked my way down to the sub 7s for the last mile or so and finished strong at 6:25 (a bit faster than my 6:35 avg per/mile mary pace last week).
I know its a long shot, but I think I have a chance to be ready for the Bolder Boulder. I really don't want to do it unless I am healthy enough to go for a PR. I know I have the fitness, but will my legs do 5:50s for 6.2?

Swim
  • 31m 20s
  • 1500.00 meters
  • 02m 05s /100 meters

Mixed it up! Some pull buoy, some 100s, some 200s. I feel like I'm a little stronger in the water today. I have a lot of swimming to do before IMAZ, but I will swim.

Tuesday - May 13

Run
  • 57m 55s
  • 6.50 miles
  • 08m 55s /Mi

Well I got it in. I started my run at 11:58pm so even though most of it was on the 14th, I'm still going to log it on the 13th. Hell, it is my birthday run and I can call it what I want... I'll call it sucky. I can barely run sub 9 minute miles! My legs feel like sledgehammers and my stride is slow and tired. I wonder if I got old. Maybe I will never run fast again. Maybe it is time to become an ultra-runner. Maybe.

Ah knuckles, I'm sitting here at 11:16pm in bed typing on my computer... finished up 3/4 of a bottle of very cheap Cabernet and I'm feeling blue. In less than 45 minutes I'm going to be another year older and I'm not sure what that means. I have a lot on my mind tonight. Sometimes the only thing for me to do at times like this is to run. I'm a runner not just physically but metaphorically. Hopefully this is the year where I find some balance and of sense of place and purpose. Who is Dick Dime, anyway? I think I’m going to go run now. Enjoy the Mt. Columbia snapshots! Photobucket

Monday - May 12

Sport
  • Hiking
  • 10h 50m

Summited my 26th 14er today!
Winter ascent of Mt. Columbia. I'm sooo tired. It was Intense... took 4 hours just to get to treeline (11,700ft). 50-75 mph winds above 13,000 ft! Post holed all the way back to the trail head! More later. I need a pillow and Ramone is comatose! I think it was 11 miles round trip, but I haven't checked my Garmin yet.

BTW, there is a LOT of snow in the mountains, the runoff is going to be huge!
