Today was supposed to be a light day. Segment 3 was only 12.2 miles and I was going to relax after it was finished and recover from yesterday... No such luck! This was a disaster. I started out at about 8AM. Last night Vik gave me the Spot locator class. I didn't charge my Garmin or iPod. So I started out with no way to judge distance. I guess I finished segment 3 and headed straight into Segment 4. I never realized my distance and there was no obvious marking. So I marched on. I was lighter because I gave Vik some of my heavy gear and I actually ran many of the miles with a sort of shuffle. I was happy. I started to get worried because, I knew that I should have arrived at Segment 3 by now... I just kept going hoping to find someone or someplace. by now I was out of water and very thirsty. I thought that sooner or later I would cross a river, no luck. I marched on knowing I was in trouble. Around 6 I saw a guy setting up some fishing gear near a truck. I asked him for help/ride. Not interested. there was a dirt road. I asked him for a road (to get me out). He said follow that dirt road. I did for hours. I arrived at a Rural Road 256 (not paved) at 9 pm. No traffic, nothing. I decided to use my Spot and summon help. I laid down in my bivy and waited. Nothing. Finally at about 11 as I was starting to sleep, A cop arrived... Two cop rides later I was at the Loaf n Jug in Bailey. Drew picked me up. I was spent. Completely dehydrated and I accepted that this would be the end of my journey.

After soaking and nowhere to go, I embarked on segment 2. The climb starts immediately and most of the hike was through fire ravaged forest. My shoulders were killing me do to the weight of my bag!. I arrived at the finish and Sgt. Vik showed up to camp out and loan me a Spot satellite location transponder. We found food and set up camp. Sleep was good.
Elevation gain: 2200 feet.
Started the Colorado trail with Drew. 16t segment went well with lots of climbing and splendid views. My pack was killing my shoulder and I became aware (I packed minimalist) that I needed to reduce weight at the first opportunity. Anyway, I arrived at The South Platte and soaked. Elevation gain: 2160 feet.

Started at the South Green Mountain Parking lot. Ran up the face and across the top. Ran down and up the Hogback via the Zora trail. Over 1500 feet of ascent. Hot 95 degrees... one Gatorade bottle was not enough and I suffered.
