"...marred by dust, and sweat, and blood..."

August 3

*GAAAAASSSSSP*  Day off today!  Wow, this is the second within a week.  I'm such a slug.  :(

Other than going into Anchorage for race packet pickup, don't know what's on tap for today.  On tap?  Beer maybe?  Nahhhh.  Can't do it until after the race.

Forcast calls for showers today, but it's only overcast now.  It's about 55 degrees outside.  Uggh - barely tolerable.  ;)   The forcast calls for showers on Sunday, too.  So everyone keep their fingers crossed for it to hold off.  I don't mind swimming and running in a little rain, but I'd rather not bike in it.  Especially when there's a possibility of having to swerve to miss hitting a moose or a bear.  Plus, riding on race slicks in the rain just ain't cool.

Have a great day, BT!

Bike
  • 30m
  • 4.00 miles
  • 8.00 Mi/hr

Mtn. biking at the Little Lake Campbell Loop. I'm insane. (sorry Steve) There were a couple downhills I thought I was going to die on. No, really! Die.

Run
  • 30m 31s
  • 3.00 miles
  • 10m 10s /Mi

7:30a. 55*, calm.

30' mostly easy, plus a couple 1' pickups at 5k+ pace. A couple good hills thrown in for good measure.

Best weather I've run in since March! Might be one of the best runs in awhile too. It was quite a bit faster than what my "easy" pace should be, but for the most part I didn't pay attention to the Garmin and just ran on feel.

Swim
  • 25m
  • 1600.00 meters
  • -----

2-loop OWS at Little Campbell Lake with Veronica (AKtri). First loop was a warmup, second loop at race pace. I like me some wetsuit!

August 1

Bike
  • 1h 30m 13s
  • 30.72 miles
  • 20.43 Mi/hr

Upper Zone 2-Zone 3.

Rode from the house to the race site, then most of the race course. Fantastic ride! I hope the race goes this well.

Hey everyone!  That was one lonnnnnng flight yesterday.  A couple hours into the flight, somewhere over Kansas, I had to start running laps up and down the aisle just to keep my sanity!  I won't log it because I've already told a few people (you know who you are) that I was taking a training day off.  ;)

I turned the Garmin on for the flight!  It was pretty wild seeing 500mph show on the screen.  Total distance from Houston was about 3300 miles, and our altitude was consistently 36000 ft.

The weather's pretty good right now, but the forecast calls for partly clowdy skies or showers all week and next.  The temp's about 55 degrees at 7:40am Alaska time, and will probably get into the 60's.

Plan for today:  put the bike together, then ride the race course.  Then maybe some fishing, mtn. biking, hiking, or just bein' lazy!

Have a great day, BT!

9:45pm:  Finally finished with my work, now it's time to start packing for my trip.  Can hardly wait to get up there.

I'll be internet-connected, so I'll stay in contact with everyone after tomorrow night.

July 29

Tons of work to do today, plus stuff to get ready for the trip.  Might try to work in a short swim today.  If not, I'll  *GASP*  take the day off!

July 28

Bike
  • 2h 10m 41s
  • 40.86 miles
  • 18.76 Mi/hr

Tour de Goatneck in Cleburne.

Pretty hilly course, and went harder than I intended, but it was great ride. Pulled a paceline for a few miles, which was a first. Pretty cool. Slowed a bit to see where Laura was (of course, she was in the paceline) and to let the next guy in line pull. He says to me, "Dude! You're the one with the tri bike." Damn roadie.

Hit the stop button on the Garmin accidentally, so I lost about 3-4 minutes and a little short of a mile before I noticed.
