This was really two runs. The first was running a 1 mile fun run with Peyton. The pace and HR info does not have this run included.

The second was my long run of the week. I had only planned runing for 1:15, but ended up running 9.18 miles in 1:27. I think this was my lowest average HR for a run ever. Add in a 9:30 pace for 9 miles and that makes a very good run. This was a pure Z1 run with not even 1 second in Z2.

Went with family to the inaugural Darren Woodson 5k and kid's fest.

I ran the 1 mile fun run pushing Lauren while Peyton ran it. Turns out, 1 mile just wasn't "fun" enough, so they made it 1 1/3 miles. This doesn't sound like much, but to a 6 year old, when he saw the 1 mile marker and not the finish all I could hear was "I hate miles", "miles are stupid", etc. I talked him down and somehow got him away from the negative attitude.

Lauren (2 1/2) also ran a 50 yard dash for which she got a medal (and they did give her a kid's event shirt as well.

Tiffany (wife) ran the 5k. This was her first ever 5k and she decided to do it this morning. Despite almost stepping on a trantula, she did great and we cheered her on when she finished.

Darren Woodson was very accessable and was taking pictures almost nonstop. He even stayed out through the rain talking to anybody/everybody who wanted.

Commute To Work
The wind was brutal. I was mainly a cross-wind, but I really go in every direction at some point in my commutes. I checked the live wind meter (weatherbug) and it was steady 20mph and gusting at 30mph. I swear I thought I was going to fall down a few times due to not moving. Seriously, there was one time I was going 14 mph downhill.

Oh, yeah, I rode the Schwinn today. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get much use out of a fixed gear bike.

No HRM again, but no biggie, I was only 3 houses away when I realized it and didn't bother turning around to go get it.

Commute Home
Hot and windy. I'm sure the wind was worse, but I didn't check the actual wind speed when I got home. I still had a few stints against the wind and it was absolutely killer, but I managed.

I saw another commuter who had about the same route through a few neighborhoods. I chatted with him a bit and we parted ways.

I also rode home entirely in the 42-16 gear. I did coast alot, but I think I could handle it with practice. It really wore me out and I almost shifted for one hill, but I think I'll do this occasionally until I can do the route without killing myself. Then, I'll determine if I want to convert a bike to a fixie.

Got in a short ride on the tandem. Wife didn't complain too much, but she doesn't like high cadence like I do. Time/distance is just a guess.

Short, easy Z1 run. I've decided I'm going to run 4 days a week for my half marathon training. This was the intro 4'th run.

Had the day off work today. Did some family stuff and bike maintenance.

Today was Peyton's second T-ball game. He still doesn't really understand the rules and he is one of 3 that hadn't played in the spring season. He hit a double and was on second base and the coaches son was at bat and smashed the ball over Peyton's head. Peyton saw the ball and took off dead straight towards center field after the ball. He almost got to the ball before he heard everyone yelling and ran back to second base. The next batter hit the ball in the same place and Peyton took two steps towards center field and caught himself and ran to home. I didn't video tape it, but I think I'm bringing the video camera for the rest of the games.

Lunchtime run at Spring Creek trail. Very nice day with the temps in the 70s at the start. HR climbed a little higher than I wanted, but still a good run.

Run at lunch.

Need to create my 1/2 mary plan for WRL and update my short/long term goals tonight.

Don't feel like building a 1/2 mary plan tonight. I'm also considering going Gold and jumping into the 20 week HM plan.

I also bought a NOS (that's new old stock, not the funny gas) 13-23 Ultegra 8-speed cassette off ebay last night. At the Texas Man, I rode all but 20 seconds or so in the small chainring. I figure I can swap the 13 for a 12 (I do have one) and have a 12-23 cassette and not have the gap between 15-17 like I do now with my 11-21 cassette. Then, I can get a 39 tooth front ring instead of the 42 I've got. I'd have a killer gear setup and I could probably even climb a little with that setup. For now, though, I'll just keep the 42 and see how it goes.

Commute To Work
60* when I left. It was actually a little chilly, but a welcomed change. Didn't have my HRM strap, but didn't worry about it.

Rode with Peyton to schoool and then I was off to work. Total time includes the time/distance riding with Peyton. I took a little different route, but prefer my other one.

Commute Home
Very nice ride home, although I could have done without the N wind. I saw a total of 6 cyclists riding on my route home. I chatted with those going in my direction. It was nice to see others enjoying the weather.

[blue]Rode the tri bike to work. Thought alot about what to do with my old Schwinn and MTB while making the ride. I've pretty much only ridden the tri bike since I got it in July and am sure that I don't need the Schwinn. Also, I'm convinced that I want a fixed gear bike, but I'm not too sure I'm going to like it or be able to make the 17 mi. commute on it. I've just got to decide which bike I want to convert to a fixie. I really want to make the MTB the fixie with a flip-flop hub giving me the single speed option. Basically, I havn't ridden this bike in 12+ years and only see it getting used while riding with Peyton or if I ever find and enter an Xterra tri. I really like this bike ('94 AlpineStars Al-Mega) and the cool factor is high with the elevated chain stays. Having it a single speed would be perfect for riding with Peyton as he only has one gear and I could easily ride with him. It would make an Xterra tri challenging, but I might be able to manage anyway or I could just put it back to multi-speed for a little while if I go that route. The downside to this is it has near vertical rear drop-outs which means it could be challenging to get it properly setup, especially since I'd want different gearing from fixie to single speed. The Schwinn is a perfect fixie candidate with the horizontal drop outs, but I see how I might want to keep it as-is and use it to share commuting time with the Klein. I also like having it as a back-up for those times I do something stupid and need a bike to race (ie Disco tri when I broke my aerobars). I could do cool things with the gearing on this one like having 2 front chainrings depending on how I want the gearing. Another advantage of going this route is that I already have an old 700c rim I could rebuild around a flip flop hub and keep my current wheel for times when I need gears on a temporary basis. Anyway, these are just ideas floating around in my head right now. If I can find a cheap 26" wheel on ebay, I'll probably attempt the MTB first. Race Report is up. [/blue]

[blue] Shoulder feels suprisingly good not too painful today. I guess the shortened swim yesterday may have been a good thing. I think my shoulder plan is to take one week off, then start some rotator cuff exercises for a few weeks, then join the Plano masters group. Even though I feel that I know what part of my stroke is bad, I need someone to help me get it good. I was thinking alot about the race yesterday. Most of it was good fun, but of course, I focused on the bad; the second half of the 10k run. I beleive I may have gotten a little dehydrated. When putting my bike up, I realized that I only drank one bottle while on the bike. I usually come really close or finish both bottles, even on the (14 & 18 mi) sprint races I've done this year. I don't get much water in while running and this didn't change yesterday for the first 5k yesterday. Despite drinking 3 half-liters of water immediately ater the race, I didn't pee until 2pm and it was pretty dark. [/blue]
