The weather's supposed to be decent tomorrow...and guess what...a TAILWIND!! Almost 20mph of it!! I'll be pushed along the course to a new Boston PR...well, I hope. I don't feel as though I've put in the training I should have this time around...being that I've been injured and I've had the flu over the past two weeks. But I am confident that I'll enjoy whatever the day hands me. I'm here...that's what matters.
So far, at the start, the weather's supposed to be sunny, but windy. 50 degrees, feels like 44. Winds from the WSW at 17mph. The course runs ENE...so that's a great tailwind to push me up Heartbreak Hill at 20.7 miles!! WOOHOO!!

What an awesome stretching session today at the Provincetown Gym. Foam roller, Swiss Ball, and a bar to hang myself upside down with. I did a bunch of hip opening yoga poses, rolled my back on the foam roller about 100 times, and stretched myself out over the top of the swiss ball. I feel nice and flexible. I will do this again tomorrow!

Short, but intense, spin on the spin bike while Bri was doing his 400's on the treadmill. I was drenched even after 21 minutes...good little workout. Did some Tabatas, some climbs, some sprints...etc.

Last taper run before Boston. Felt good.
I was at Mile 5 starting to feel like I hadn't done well enough in my training when all of a sudden, a bunny hopped across the road in front of me. It crossed the street and stood there staring at me as I ran past. From then on, my attitude changed and I really enjoyed myself for the rest of the run. No matter what happens next Monday, I know I'm gonna enjoy it.

Today's workout was another burner!! :)
5 rounds, for time, of:
30 thrusters (40#)
30 box jumps (18")
This one was pretty much all legs...save for the core/shoulders work in the thrusters. Bigtime aerobic and anaerobic endurance combo here. Good stuff.

10 x 200 on the 2 minute.
Treadmill intervals. I kept the pace to 6 flat...with Boston coming up I wanted to compromise between all out and marathon pace. 6 flat is still faster than my 5k pace.

So it seems that putting "CrossFit" in the sports heading only nets me 73 calories burned. Yeah...I don't think so. 70 pullups and 21 snatches? Yeah...way more than 73 calories methinks. The 55 calories in the strength training and the 73 calories in the CrossFit is more like it. 130 calories or so is closer to the truth. CF for 9 minutes is pretty damn intense...I can burn 100 calories in 6 minutes while running...so...this is a better estimate.
Today's morning workout was deceptively hard. It didn't seem difficult when I read it...but damn...it HURT to perform.
Seven rounds for time of:
75# split snatch, 3reps
Pullups, 10 reps
Time - 9:33
I did all 7 rounds of the snatches unbroken...but the pullups...only rounds 1 & 2 were without a break in reps. In round 7 I took 2 breaks in the pullups. OUCH. Good workout though. I came close to a visit from Pukey today.
1230 - Our first full day in P-Town. It's windy (like 25-35mph on the water) and it's raining like crazy. Even a fair amount of lightning and thunder. It's supposed to be great tomorrow though, so today we're just staying in and relaxing (in between gym workouts at the Provincetown Gym...cool place). We'll shop and eat and explore tomorrow when it's nice out.
So far, the weather in Boston on Monday is supposed to be good. It's gonna rain on Sunday but the forecast says a high of 63 on Monday...hopefully not windy. 47 is the low...so it should be a decent day for the Boston Marathon!! Well, it will be if the forecast stays the same. It's been this way for a few days now so I'm hoping the closer we get to race day the more concrete the forecast will be. 5 days out and it's still looking good. Actually, it's IMPROVED over the past few days, so that's good! Yes, I'm totally obsessed with the forecast. I wanna have a good Boston!!

My friends

Processing your request, please wait...
Boston, baby!!
Not quite the day I expected, I was on pace to go 3:04 all the way thru Mile 21. But the hills took alot of energy to conquer so I kinda lost it around 22. Im still happy though...Ive had the flu in the last month and I have had three injuries since October...two calf pulls and a right quad pull. So...overall I gave it all I had in the tank today. Can't ask for more than that.
Oh and I guess I should mention that my longest continuous training run was 15 miles. Imagine what I could do if I actually get thru a full training schedule! Next year.
Runnin' a little race...should be fun. GOOD LUCK to all other Boston runnin' BTers!!! GO GO GO!!
