This run was just awful. In every way. First off, I was supposed to bike, but I found out when I got there that my rear wheel's bearing cartridge is broken. So...no ride. Decided to run...well, I had no music, no Garmin, and no nutrition (left it in the car...found this out a mile in). I did however, pull a watch out of my bag so at least I had the time.

It was hot, I was drenched. My pace sucked. This entire run was doomed from the beginning.

I wore my new Newton trail shoes today though...and they were very comfortable. So at least THAT didn't suck.

Bayshore run. I shortened this one to 4 miles...it was effing HOT out tonight. When I started the temp gauge in the car still said 96 degrees. That's insane. It wasn't as humid as last night, so my breathing was better...but I was a drenched mess when I finished. My poor shoes.

Good news!!  I've been hired by MetLife to teach boot camps to their employees twice a week!  How cool is that!?!?

Running group in St. Pete. Had a nice easy start but on the way back it was a struggle. It was VERY humid...the temp wasn't awful but the mugginess really made a difference in my breathing. So much in fact that my chest hurt upon finishing this run. OUCH.

Took me forever to wake up today.  Slept til 11am.  Not sure why.  Sure I went to bed late last night, but it was midnight, not 3AM.  So...11 hours of sleep...hmmm...I don't really feel like I'm fatigued or overtrained.  As a matter of fact, my volume has been pretty low.  Hmmm...

0950 - Twelve years ago TODAY, I set out on a 1200-mile journey in a 20-foot U-Haul with my 1994 Sentra SE-R trailered behind it.  At 8am I left Mahwah, NJ on my way to Orlando, FL.  I had little more than a couch, table, chairs, and bed with me, and about 400 dollars in my pocket.

Tomorrow will be 12 years I've spent in Florida and I can't imagine life being any different than it is right now.  Well, except for the whole "I have no money cuz the economy sucks" part.  But other than that...life is good!

Run #1
  • 10m 34s
  • 1.37 miles
  • 07m 41s /Mi

I parked my car at the bottom of the Memorial Causeway Bridge and ran from the parking lot to the beach along the Ream Wilson Trail. I used my Minimus for the first part of the workout.

Swim

The swim portion of my workout. I did one lap of my usual Clearwater Beach course...from Station 3 to Station 1 and back. I stopped a little short of Station 1 this time though, I just wanted to get to about 1000 yards so I looked at my Garmin and turned around when I figured I'd gone about 500. Turns out I got a little extra distance.

Run #2
  • 10m 52s
  • 1.40 miles
  • 07m 46s /Mi

This was a barefoot run. I picked up my shoes from the beach and I ran. I used grass and sand whenever I could, but wound up using about 20% roadway when there was either no room or no grass available.

I find it kinda cool that I ran almost as fast barefoot as I did with shoes on.
