Medium-long

Out and back to I-95 from the house. Tried to keep the pace below my BQ pace since this is the last "long" run before the mary.

Felt okay. Toe was slightly annoying but not bad overall. Didn't bring any water/gels so I just ran.

Going out for brunch with the old nanny and her husband since it was her birthday yesterday. Kids are all excited. Then I've got the two younger ones as Mir is taking the oldest to a show at Olney Theater.

Recovery + Speed

3 of the regular loops around the neighborhood with 6 x 100 strides mixed in. Felt okay but have a toe issue.

I usually do self-surgery when I have problems with my toes, and I know that doing something close to a race is stupid, so I haven't touched any of the dead skin/callous stuff that I always get on my little toes. Well, the left decided it would still f--k with me even if I didn't mess with it!

So it is very tender and slightly painful. Last night I was very careful about trimming some of the usual dead skin away (my little toes curl in slightly under my other toes - yeah, I'm a freak), but it is still tender/sore. After about a mile or so I don't notice it, but it definitely affects my stride ...... grrr .... Luckily it is still a week from the race, so there is time for it to heal. It's Tivas at the office today so the puppies can air out! ;-P

On a side note ...... I have been "accepted" to race for TeamGU for the '07 season. What does that mean?? I get a huge discount for buying one of two "packages" that include a jersey, hat, socks, water bottles, Gu gels, Gu2O, and other things. Depending on which package I'd purchase I get more or less stuff. It's really a great deal since even with the $99 package you get 2 cases of 48 gels, and 2 big buckets of Gu2O. That's more than the price of entry in the first place pretty much, not too mention the other stuff. And when you provide a photo of yourself racing in the Gu get up you get points which can be used for more free schwag (100 points for an IM, 70.3, or XTERRA race and 50 for each Oly. or Sprint). Max. is 300 points a year. I have a 70.3 and IM on the calender already, so can easily max. out the points. To give you an idea, 300 points would get me 6 cases of 48 gels ...... well more than I'd use in a year!! I'll take it! ;)

Rest/Cross training Rest for me. We were in bed by 9:30 last night and since it's a rest day I don't have to get up until after 6, so i got a nice solid 9 hours of sleep. Woohoo!! I feel a lot better today as well, I was getting worried that the fatigue would last more and interupt the last few big runs of the training. The question keeps popping into my head ..... what could I really run if I went all out on the marathon and not focus just on the BQ?? Could I possibly break 3? If I start conservative to make sure I don't blow up and then at the halfway mark pick it up I won't hit my potential. But if I go out too fast I could blow the whole thing and not even get my BQ. Hmmmmmm, what to do ......

General Aerobic

Out and back at a steady (but slower) pace. Pretty fatigued still. Guess the race took more out of me than I know. So I bagged the last scheduled interval day and just did the prescribed mileage as a general aerobic run.

Rest day tomorrow, 5 mile recovery with strides on Friday, rest Sat. and 12 miler on Sunday so the schedule is fairly light for the next week.

General Aerobic + Speed

Ugh .... not that great of a run. 4 laps of the neighborhood with a little extra added to get the 7 miles on the schedule plus 8 x 100 strides mixed in. First lap wasn't bad, second lap was a bit slower, third lap sucked and fourth was worse. Definitely some tires legs from the race.

On a side note, with today's mileage I'm now at 1,300 miles for the year. Holy crap that's a lot of miles!!

Sad part is?? I've probably got another 100 or 2 until the end of the year ... Maybe go for 1,500 for shits and grins??? That would be hard to hit with my schedule ......

November 13

Rest/cross day. Rest from the race yesterday. Only have 4 runs scheduled this week (second week of the taper). 7 tomorrow, 8 on Weds. with 3 x 1600 intervals included (we'll see if I actually do that!!), 5 of Friday, and 12 on Sunday. The wind breaker I won yesterday was a "S" so I'm going to see if I can exchange it from the store who provided it for a large. I like it, so I hope they will. House news ...... They replaced some of the floor that was buckling (hardwood) and were there all of yesterday. Today they are going to be installing the back steps from the morning room (they were waiting for the fake wood to show up) and replacing all the interior door knobs - we spec'ed lever style and they installed the normal round ones .... they knew from the beginning that we wanted and spec'ed lever style. Could be in there by next week! Ummmm, believe it when I see it!! Oh, and forgot to say ...... yesterday's race now made it official .... I'm faster than I ever was when I was running when younger. My previous 5k PR was an 18:45 and I didn't know if I could ever hit that again.
