2010 - Will the heart let me train?

November 5

Run
  • 2h 10m 41s
  • 17.00 miles
  • 07m 41s /Mi

Long

7 (almost) loops at Centennial Park. Wanted to make sure I didn't go too fast as I have been with my last few long runs, which was easy to do because I was pretty fatigued today.

Just didn't feel like I had anything in the tank. Glad when this run was over.

Recovery + Speed

4 miles with 6 x 100 strides mixed in. Uneventful run other than it was damn cold and windy.

Well, they supposedly passed the water test yesterday which was the last official thing the County needed for the Use and Occupancy release. Which means once they get that we can "officially" move in. HOWEVER, we are still not happy with all the work and many of the things in the home inspection we had done are not corrected yet. And the shower door in our bathroom is not even installed all the way, the foyer chandelier has no bulbs, the fireplace does not work still (gas), etc. etc. So we will not be moving in until they fix all their fuck-ups. May be another week or two .....

Rest/Cross training. Rest day. Got a good nights sleep even though Mir had some sort of stomach bug and hurled a bit before we went to bed. I don't think the baby woke up too much or if he did I didn't ...... Starting to visualize what I want to accomplish next week at the Jingle Bell Run. Last year I got 10th overall and 2nd in the 30-34 AG. This year I'd like to push it and place top 3 overall if I can. That really depends if the real fasties show up or if it is like last year where the top three barely cracked 19 (it is a 3.2 mile course, not a true 5k though ......). As long as I don't over-cook the first mile I should be able to hang strong.

General Aerobic

Usual out and back for the distance. Legs were a little achey from walking the kids around last night. But it is nice to finish the early morning run with the sun coming up so cars can see me and I don't have to use the indiglo light on the watch to see the splits ...... ;-P

Baby was up fussing last night, which is why so little sleep and crappy sleep number. Mir gets really fussy when that happens ....

October 31

Run
  • 1h 01m 28s
  • 7.80 miles
  • 07m 52s /Mi

VO2 Max.

2.5 mile warm-up to the local high school track.
5 x 600's @ 5k pace with 400 recovery in between. Splits were very consistent and really pushed the last one to break two minutes - 2:08, 2:08, 2:09, 2:06, 1:59.
2.5 mile warm-down back to the house.

Once again I'm over 200 miles for the month ...... that's three months in a row! Ugh ....

I have one more track workout on the schedule - 3 x 1600 - in two weeks (the week before the race). I'm also racing on the 12th in a local 5k (Jingle Bell Run) so I might not actually do that workout. I'm pretty damn fit right now .... I don't need to risk injury to run three one mile intervals. If I was not confident in my training right now I'd probably still do them. We'll see how I feel when that workout comes on the schedule.

October 30

Rest/cross training Only cross training I'm doing is typing online and red-lining a set of drawings ...... definitely a rest day today. I actually don't feel all that sore considering. I took a short hot bath with epsom salts to let the legs soak a little last night and I guess it worked okay. :shrugs: Track workout tomorrow (5 x 600's) and then a relatively light week compared to what I've been doing. It's not the official start of the taper but it sort of seems like it .......
