2010 - Will the heart let me train?

Bike

  • 50.00 miles
  • 20.86 Mi/hr

Same loop as last week (out and back to Rt. 3 along Rt. 175).

Rode the FSA wheels. They held up well and were really smooth. If anything I LOOK fast. ;)

But didn't really feel fast today. Got real draggy on the return trip, similar to last week. Kind of has me worried. Oh well, taking the next two weeks very easy and light to fully recover from the last six months.

Also taped the aero bars today before the ride. Still not sure if I'm going gloveless or not on race day.

I'm pretty sure I saw C.J. (Dlaxman31) on my way home on Pindell School Road. Have to ask him. It was definitely the same kind of bike he has!

3 hours + walking at Monticello and through Charlottesville. Was an okay time, but we were always under pressure to be somewhere at sometime. Didn't get home until just now (10:30) and we left at 7:00 this morning. Ugh!

"Endurance" day

1 x 100, 200, 300, 400, 500

Didn't come back down the ladder since I was a bit tired and needed to get to the office.

Don't know why the weight is creeping up again. Could be the fact that last night I had a steak and potatoes for dinner, three Guinness draughts, and a pint of Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk. ;)

Run
  • 21m 33s
  • 3.10 miles

Wanted to see how the knee felt. Did a .7 mile w/u and then pushed a moderate pace for the rest of the loops.

Knee felt okay running, but a little twingy now that I'm at work.

Didn't ride last night (again) because of Brendan playing baseball and getting home and looking at the house. By that time it was well after 8:00 and I was cooked for the day. Getting lazy in my "taper" ..... not good!

Swim
  • 26m 58s
  • 1500.00 yards
  • 01m 48s /100 yards

Typical Weds. "speed" day:

1 x 500 w/u
5 x 100 on 2:30
5 x 50 w/ 15 sec. rest
10 x 25 w/ 10 sec. rest

This was the fastest time I've done this workout. It's interesting that my best interval and the one that I actually feel like I know how to swim and swim quickly is the first one after the 500 warm up. Today that was a 1:39 minute 100. Not blazing by any standard, but quick for me.

Left the injury red square on because I still have a little twinge in the knee, but it didn't bother me at all during the swim. Little B has a baseball game again tonight so I'll be on the trainer probably for my ride tonight. Good news is I FINALLY glued my tires on the race wheels. Gonna ride them this weekend (moving my Saturday ride to Sunday and my Sunday run to Monday because we are going to Monticello on Saturday so Miriam can hear a talk on the different local roses that are grown in the area - got to do wife stuff to keep life balanced ;) ). Took me about an hour of constant rubbing to get all the glue off my fingers. Had an easy time putting the rear on, but the front made me all sticky ......

Another scheduled rest day. Knee seems to be a little better, but still twinges occasionaly. I have a swim tomorrow morning and bike ride in the evening and don't run until Thurs., so we'll see how I do with a few running days off. I really think the Transition is what is throwing the knee off even though the cleat position is the same that I use on my road bike. I do think the seat needs to go up a hair, but it is already so far out that I don't want to go to far ..... Time wise I was in bed okay, but the littlest bug kept waking up at the drop of a hat and was howling most of the night which kept us up.

Good news, I got a lot of sleep last night (really tired yesterday). Bad news, I aggravated my left ITB on my run yesterday, which was one of the reasons I did not do my last lap of the neighborhood. Luckily today and tomorrow are scheduled rest days, so we'll see how the knee does with some stretching and icing.
