2010 - Will the heart let me train?

May 26

We have a lot to do today around the house and yard as well as doing some garden shopping stuff for Mir.  Planning on a rest day for sure tomorrow, but if I can sneak out for a ride today it would be nice.  But having two rest days may get me back in the swing too.

Just wanted to get some yards in without overstressing the body. The boys all have colds, so need to make sure I don't get it.

General Aerobic + Speed

Out and back to Rt. 29 along 216 with 6 x 100 strides mixed in. Legs felt "alien" - best word I can use to expain it. Felt strange to try and pick up the pace/cadence on the strides. Legs were dead and it seemed like I had no form or anything and that running was something I just learned how to do (only way I can describe it).

Out and back to Triadelphia circle. Tried to go easy, but coming back was into the wind, so it was a bit harder. Max. HR was blasting down the road to get to the neighborhood (I always like to hammer the 53/11 and get over 40 mph on that part).

Recovery

Crappy run again. I think I'm fatigued from all the effort of earlier in the year. Just totally not feeling it right now in any of the disciplines. After my 5k next week I may take the rest of the week off from excercise to try and get "it" back ........

Trying to figure out my sweat rate as well to see just what I need for my longer events.  Today's ride was the first crack at it .......

Before weight - 177.6.  After weight - 176.0.  Drank 18 oz. of water and had two Gu's in that period (1.1 oz. each) for a total of 20.2 oz. consumed over the 1:11:28 time period.

Using the calculator at Triharder.com that comes out to a 38 oz./hr. rate.  Seems kinda high to me ....... but we'll keep trying it out to see what sort of averages I get.  Definitely means my one bottle an hour ain't gonna cut it!!

Really tired again. Still an effect of yesterday probably.

General Aerobic

Out and back to I-95. Totally wasn't feeling it and was dying on the way back. It was in to the wind, but that was no excuse for how I felt. Really fatigued and had nothing. I actually stopped at the 9 mile mark, walked about 4/10ths of a mile then started up again slowly to get home. It would have been a 10.2 mile run had I gone the whole distance. Didn't bring the HRM with me, which was probably a good thing.

I am pretty sure I can blame it on an afternoon run (I pretty much only run in the morning) with only having eaten two glazed donuts, a tall Starbucks regular coffee, a homemade mocha (we have a machine I got for Mir for X-Mas), and a few dark chocolate peanut clusters. So no real food today. ;-P

Went to the Columbia Tri and cheered people on.  Saw C.J. - he had a rough swim and DNF'ed in it, but did the rest of the course as a good brick workout.  My oldest son's friend's Mom was racing and we cheered her on with her family while the boys played on the playground.  A little bit of rain, then the sun came out and it was a nice day.  Gave Mir about 5 hours to herself, which was nice for her.
