2010 - Will the heart let me train?

October 10

As always, full rest day before race day.

No idea what to expect tomorrow.  I know I have no long distance endurance right now (at least at pace), so I have no clue what I can run realistically.  Should I pace slow and just run with the relay team from our office?  Their goal is in the 3:50 - 4:00 range.  Or should I just go out there and run relatively easy recovery pace and be in the 3:30 - 3:45 range?  Or will I be an idiot and just run how I feel and see what the day brings and hope I don't blow up??

Recovery

4 loops at x-country practice with some of the other dads (both are 2:4X marathoners). Relaxed pace, not a lot of effort. Felt good.

Slept in again, then took the kids to school.  Will run an easy 3 to 5 recovery at x-country practice tonight (unless they need me to coach).  Going to pick up my packet at lunch for Saturday.  It's going to be almost perfect temps on race day (starting in the 50's) but could get a little warm as the day goes on, and it will be bright and sunny ....... it would be better overcast.

October 8

It was cold and the bed felt good.  Nothing this morning.  Probably gonna make it a rest day as my shoulder/back on the left side is sore and tender from the last two swims.

2 of the larger loops around the hood with 6 x 100 strides mixed in. It was frickin' cold this morning! My weather station thingy said 34 ...... and it is still only the first week in October! Brrrrrr.

It is amazing that when I get in early (kids are off school today and tomorrow) the difference in the level of ability of the crowd in the pool. All the lanes were full with 2 people and out of all of them I was probably the slowest there, or close to it. Usually the later crowd I swim with I am far away the "fastest" of the bunch. Good to help keep me in check and re-emphasize how bad I really am compared to swimmers in the water! ;-P

Recovery

Ran with the kids at x-country practice. Ended up running with Brendan's group and was the lead person for the faster group. Did two of the 2k loops. Then ran another loop of the 1k course with Brendan and his friends. Nice easy run with the kids.

Medium-Long

Out and back to Laurel side of I-95 at LSD pace. Started off feeling pretty easy, but labored more towards the end. Longest run in quite a long time.

Ended up working 5 hours and taking care of the kids in the morning so Mir could get in a good walk with her friends.  Then played with the kids after working and eating cheap Chinese, so no workout yesterday.  Getting ready to go out for a nice LSD right now, then later taking Brendan to a x-country meet in Frederick.

Want to swap out the parts on Sonia so I can do a how-to for that install as well.

Also had to replace my radiator in my car that I had ordered and got in Weds.  My car has been leaking out of the top of the radiator and I had to fill it up every trip I made.  So I'm glad I got that in (less than an hour swap in my car .... real easy).

And both Brendan and Collin ran today!  Collin (5 years old) ran in the 1k and got 6th place for boys!!  He isn't even officially on the team, but did great!  Brendan (8 years old) ran the 2k with his AG and got 13th, 4 better than last weekend!  He looked solid and held off 3 other kids that were coming up on him at the finish.
