2010 - Will the heart let me train?
May 8
May 7
Ladder:
1 x 100, 200, 300, 400, 500
Uneventful session, just getting the yards in but tried to stay even throughout the different distances without any real fall off. Did pretty good with that I think.

General Aerobic
Out and back to my side of Rt. 29. Tried to keep a steady and moderate effort. But real tired on the return leg. Think I've lost a step or two in the recovery period from Boston ... or I'm not fully recovered. This is sort of like what happened last year ......
Oh, and I can't find my HRM. Don't know where it went!
Princeton Sports ride
Rode from home to Princeton (8 miles, averaged around 19.5 or so spinning mostly easy). Then had to sit around for about 15 minutes before the ride started.
Rode with the front group until the first real hill and got dropped a bit. Caught back up on the long downhill before the first roundabout and then stayed with them until the next hill. Got dropped again but stayed similar pace in no man's land. Ended up catching another guy and let him draft off of me as we went through the heart of the course which is relatively flat with some slight rollers. Motored along at 25 - 30 there, but was not making any ground up on the group.
As we made the hard left at the farm and got ready to blast down and back up near the reservoir we saw a rider with his wheel in hand so we stopped to help him. After both my CO2's, my spare tube and having to stop another guy with a hand pump we still didn't have him back on the road. The valve on my tube ripped out when we were trying to muscle the hand pump off of the valve extender. Frickin' piece of shit!! By then the BOPers had all almost caught up. He had a spare tube as well, so I let him have my extender and made sure he was alright before taking off again.
Turned off as usual at Ten Oaks to go towards home and was smoking along even with the hills that are on that part. About 5 miles from home I hear "Hey Rick!" I turn and there is Shelly123 and Slake out driving having done a recon. of the course!! Too cool. I made a crack about it was about time I got on my bike. ;)
decent overall ride, but I'm a little disappointed (although not surprised at all) that I've lost some of my climbing abilities. Last year with the group I would be up near the front climbing. But not today .....

Kids are being a total pain in the azz this morning and not wanting to get moving. Getting more frustrated each minute. Going to make getting to the pool even more frustrating.

Medium loop.
Started from home, went down 216 and through Laurel, up Rt. 1 to Montgomery Rd., turned and rode that in until it turned in 103 and then rode that over through St. John's, to 108 and then rode about 2/3rds of the Columbia Tri course.
Gawd damn Blackbird is fast! I was going relatively easy for effort knowing that I have not ridden this long since November at FL. Tired a little towards the end, but still able to fly along in the 23 - 28 range on the flats. It is a very rolling loop and once on the course I took most of the hills easy.
Great ride! Felt good to get out there and crank it. Amazingly able to stay aero for most of the ride. Guess I haven't lost as much as I thought in the last 6 months ....
Short brick
One loop around the hood. Started off a little slow and the left quad was like "What the hell is this?? Didn't we just ride over 50? Now you want me to run??? I don't think so!" And it started to cramp. But I can run through those ... just not calf cramps! ;)
Worked itself out after another 1/2 mile or so and just continued on at an even relaxed pace.
Had a great time yesterday. Father-in-law, Auntie and our old nanny and her husband left around 10-ish so it went on all day!
Birthday party to take the oldest to and then going for a nice long ride!

Up until 3:30 working on food for the party today. Grumpy, tired and not at all happy because of all that. Hopefully I'll warm up as the day goes on. No run this morning because of that which doesn't help. Maybe try to sneak out for something this afternoon after the party.
Nothing. Still eating/drinking/playing. Another rest day ...... so be it .......

Worked until around 11:15, then went home, got in bed and got back up at 6:30 to get the oldest one up and ready for school. The middle one is really sick and got sent home in the afternoon yesterday so is staying home today. Means I'm driving the oldest in to school. Plus have to finish up that portion of the project that needs to get sent out today. And then it is the oldest's First Communion tomorrow, so cleaning the house and getting ready for guests to come over.
Needless to say, the chances of me getting any sort of workout in are reallllyyyy slim.

General Aerobic
Out and back to Crest Rd. sign on 216. Tried to keep the pace even this time compared to last two runs where I went fast in the first half and then backed it off in the second.
