2010 - Will the heart let me train?

Resting today.
Legs are not too bad but some of my joints are really achey (knees mainly). Worst thing is I'm served up extra crispy ......... with sunburn ......
Even though I thougt I had a decent swim I still finished front of BOP again. Kind of disappointed with that as I thought I did much better before I saw my time coming out of the water. 889th overall in the swim, 194th overall on the bike (includes men and women with only a handful of women beating my bike split ... not that it matters much).
Need to really evaluate what the hell I'm doing here and make a decision about LP.

See comments below. time includes the stop and go penatly for crossing the yellow line, which was about a minute or so of time. Distance is what we've done the last two years. My cylcometer actually said over 58 (which means my calibrations still weren't right for the disc even though I had tweaked it some more).
Swim went well. Even though the time doesn't seem to reflect it (different course AGAIN this year - it's changed each year I've done it), I swam freestyle the entire thing, sighted well and grabbed some feet when I could. I was really pleased with the swim.
Bike started out great, felt like it was little to no effort which is where I wanted to keep it. Wind picked up and made it tough from 10 - 20 miles and then you were fighting it on and off throughout the rest of the ride. Got passed by only about a dozen people or so. BUT ..... got my first penalty in a race ..... As I was passing someone he decided to pass another person and I had to push over to avoid getting bumped so I went just a few inches past the yellow lines. And that was the one time a marshall was around. Boom ..... yellow card. I was pizzed because I thought for sure that was a time penalty. But when I stopped in the penalty tent I just had to sign my name and they got my race number and sent me on the way. We'll see if a time penalty is assessed at the end but I don't think so.
Now the run or lack thereof ..... Starting off the legs were already tired and the motivation just wasn't there. Both quads and hammies started twinging when I stopped to stretch and that kept happening. All this within the first mile. And it was hot, and I was really not there mentally (with the bike penalty, the fact that the family was at home and that the basement had flooded because they didn't have power all evening and night and the sump pump backed up). So I said f-ck and stopped and turned around. I walked back towards the transition area but turned around again and decided to give it another shot. Then after only about 100 yards I really said f-ck it. Seriously, what's the point??? I know that it was going to be a huge suffer-fest and that I have no doubt I'd be walking the second half (at least) of the run. It just was not worth it for a training race. I have shown my HTFU in 3 marathons, a HIM and my IM, there is no need to do it again for another medal.
Lack of training really sucks.

Travel day to Cambridge. Hanging out with the kids this morning and cleaning up the kitchen. Packing gear and getting ready to get on the road. I'd like to get there by 1 so I can meet up with Oceanannie and others to get some swim time in the Choptank, but we'll have to wait and see how that goes. Lots of stuff to do here still before leaving .....
Got the Lego Indiana Jones for the PS2 yesterday. Played a couple "episodes" of it and it was pretty cool. Very similar to Lego Star Wars of course.

Dress Rehearsal
Out 216 to circle at 29, back to 108 intersection and back home. Usual shorter test session that I do. Nice easy relaxed effort, no pressure on the legs.
Had an issue with my left cleat trying to get into the pedal. Worked it out after cleaning the cleat out and futzing with the spring. Probably going to start with shoes on the bike in the race because of that.

1,000 yard TT in the wetsuit - 16:10 (1:37 average) - fastest ever 1,000 but since it was in the suit it doesn't "count" for a PR.
Took suit off.
100 paddles and pull buoy (1:36)
100 catch up with zoomers (1:29)
100 paddles and zoomers (1:27)
General Aerobic
Same route as Monday, just backed it off a hair compared to then. Still ran at would normally be my comfortable medium run pace, so even without all the training lately I'm still holding out okay for improvement! (I hope).

Had to take the kids to school again, so have to move my wetsuit swim session to this evening after work. Gonna have to go to one of the other pools in the system since the one I usually go to in the morning does swim practive which means I'd have to go into the other pool in that facility which is always way hot water temps, and I'm NOT swimming in a wetsuit in that! Luckily one of the other indoor pools in the system is cooler temps and is often where a lot of the local fasties go.
And I guess it is fair that we get a crazy hot and humid race this weekend as we've had two good years temperature-wise in my other two experiences with Eagleman.
Huge crazy storm ripped through just as I was getting to the pool after work. Even though it is an indoor place they frickin' closed the pool until a 1/2 hour after the thunder/lightning ends. Association policy ..... so now I have to try and get over there after getting the kids to bed ....... grrrrrrr.

Recovery
3 of the shorter loops around the hood. Nice and easy enjoying the morning. Surprisingly not sore or fatigued that much (well, not surprising since I didn't punish my legs on the run portion of the race).
