2010 - Will the heart let me train?

June 7

Travel day to Cambridge.  Hanging out with the kids this morning and cleaning up the kitchen.  Packing gear and getting ready to get on the road.  I'd like to get there by 1 so I can meet up with Oceanannie and others to get some swim time in the Choptank, but we'll have to wait and see how that goes.  Lots of stuff to do here still before leaving .....

Got the Lego Indiana Jones for the PS2 yesterday.  Played a couple "episodes" of it and it was pretty cool.  Very similar to Lego Star Wars of course.

Dress Rehearsal

Out 216 to circle at 29, back to 108 intersection and back home. Usual shorter test session that I do. Nice easy relaxed effort, no pressure on the legs.

Had an issue with my left cleat trying to get into the pedal. Worked it out after cleaning the cleat out and futzing with the spring. Probably going to start with shoes on the bike in the race because of that.

Not quite a full on rest day, but the only thing on the schedule will be a short spin on Blackbird to make sure she is working at full capacity.  Taking the kids to school again (as I have all week) and then going to take off early and pick them up at 3.

1,000 yard TT in the wetsuit - 16:10 (1:37 average) - fastest ever 1,000 but since it was in the suit it doesn't "count" for a PR.

General Aerobic

Same route as Monday, just backed it off a hair compared to then. Still ran at would normally be my comfortable medium run pace, so even without all the training lately I'm still holding out okay for improvement! (I hope).

No swim last night because it kept thunderstorming on and off all evening.

June 4

Had to take the kids to school again, so have to move my wetsuit swim session to this evening after work.  Gonna have to go to one of the other pools in the system since the one I usually go to in the morning does swim practive which means I'd have to go into the other pool in that facility which is always way hot water temps, and I'm NOT swimming in a wetsuit in that!  Luckily one of the other indoor pools in the system is cooler temps and is often where a lot of the local fasties go.

And I guess it is fair that we get a crazy hot and humid race this weekend as we've had two good years temperature-wise in my other two experiences with Eagleman.

Huge crazy storm ripped through just as I was getting to the pool after work.  Even though it is an indoor place they frickin' closed the pool until a 1/2 hour after the thunder/lightning ends.  Association policy ..... so now I have to try and get over there after getting the kids to bed ....... grrrrrrr.

Recovery

Easy 2 of the shorter loops around the hood. A little on the cool side (around 55 or so) but felt good.

General Aerobic

Out and back to Rt. 29 along 216. Started off prepared for a moderate run and was going to throw some strides in. Didn't feel like I was going very quickly. Then looked down at the 1 mile point and had run a 6:36 ..... ummmmm, okay. Backed off a hair. Mile 2 was a 6:46.

Alright then, so be it, let's make it a good tempo-ish run. All miles under 7 except the first one of the return leg which was a 7:01 (and mostly uphill incline). Great run in about 80 degree heat.

Felt good to be out there after a 3 day layoff and the stresses of the last few days.

Nothing yesterday oviously.  Woke up this morning on time to go out and do something, but just didn't do it.  Getting the kids up to take them to school and then Mir's Aunt is coming down the hill to watch the littlest one so Mir can continue to rest.  She's physically getting better but is still a mess emotionally. :(

Eagleman is going to be hot ..... looking like upper 80's to 90 for temps.  Ugh!!

June 1

She's feeling a little better, but is still going to rest in bed today.  No race this morning obviously which is fine because my legs are finally not feeling as sore.  Need to get out for something today, at least a decent easy paced run if not something more substantial.
