Should be a rest day. Supposed to have Brendan's first meet, but not sure where or when. Checking on that now.
He didn't want to race. Not going to force him of course, but a little disappointed.

R1 - 3:43 (about .6 miles) - Sandy beach run. Supposed to be a mile, but wasn't even close.
R2 - 41:48 (6.2 miles) - 10k run leg of the tri. Flat and really windy.
Website has it as a 40k split and averaging 23.7, but it was really a 41k course. Crazy windy as I mentioned below.
Heavy surf and rip tide made it a Du. About a 3/4 mile run on the beach to transition area, then 41k bike, then 10k run. Considering my low level of fitness and no real bike training I still pulled off 4th in AG and 14th overall. In the top 15 there were 5 people in the 35-39 age group. Damn I'm in a tough field! It was crazy frickin' windy out there. I was actually riding with the guys who finished top 10, but had to fall off a bit as the ride wore on. Not sure of my splits yet, but should be in the 24.0 - 24.5 range for the ride and just under 7 for the run. My bike average dropped about 1-1/2 mph in the last 10 miles because of the wind. Total time was 1:51:30.
Take out that damn swim thing and I'm pretty darn competitive!! ;)

X-Country practice
Running warm ups and sprints with the kids.
Nothing this morning. Have kids x-country practice tonight where I'll run a few laps easy.
Finishing gluing on the tire that I popped from the Northeast Tri so that it will be race ready for Saturday. Taking the kids down tomorrow to the beach while Mir goes to an event at her old school in Virginia.
Put in the order to the shop for SRAM Red shifters and dérailleurs after work yesterday! Time to get Sonia down to 14 lbs.!! ;)
Grrrrrr ........ when I went down to mount the tire and pump it up, it frickin' blew right at the goddamn valve!!! So I had to get my spare (which is not stretched) and while wearing my work clothes muscle the damn thing on. Now I've got no spare ...... need to go to the shop and buy one for the race. That's 3 flats .... they come in three's, so that should be the last of them for awhile .....

Race simulation
500 in wetsuit - 8:10 (1:38 pace)
500 in wetsuit - 7:59 (1:36 pace)
200 without suit - 3:37 (1:49 pace)
Felt pretty good in the suit, a little tight on the first 500, so adjusted the fit in the shoulders a little and felt better on the second. The 200 without the suit was a nice cool down.
I really just wish my pool wetsuit times translated even remotely to the damn open water!! This weekend is going to be a true ocean swim in the Atlantic.

Recovery
Slow easy loop around the hood. Legs are still really sore from Saturday. I definitely pushed it to the limits of my fitness in the race!
