We shall brave the snowy roads and go to the gym.  Mary and I both have speed workouts, and Conor can play in KID ZONE and burn off some energy from being cooped up inside.  I have some new shoes and running shorts that need to be broke in.  Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I can smell the Starbucks from here!  Bring it on!

We drove out to the gym, and just a we pull up, I realize I left my bag at home, so I dropped family off and drove back home, got bag, came back to gym and did my run.  We went to Moe's for lunch, Starbucks, then over to Sam's for supplies.  Finally home, where Finn peed on the floor.

I took off yesterday, cause I was just freaking tired.  I only had a swim planned, so I figured I would do save it until today and do it before spin class.  Hey, ya gotta have a plan.  The plan was destroyed.  It snowed.  A LOT!  It started about 12 hours ago, and it's still snowing.  So, after several inches of snow, all schools were called off.  Back to bed.  No swim....well, not yet at least.  Threw out spin class and went for a trainer ride....my poor bike needed my ass on it anyhow, since all I've done for several weeks now is spin.  Felt good to get on the bike again.  Mary and I "intend" to do some P90X after she takes her turn on the trainer, and after that, it's a mystery, but if GOD wills it, I will go for a swim and then hit Starbucks.
Soooooo, Erin dropped her cell phone in a glass of milk last night.  There was just no amount of blow drying to get milk out of it, so she dug out her old cell phone and we reactivated it.  Good thing she held on to that thing.  Live and learn.  Hard to get upset since I've destroyed a few myself.  Geez, the snow is coming down HARDER since I've been typing!
I did go out and shovel snow for about 30 minutes, but I just don't have the heart to list that kind of thing as a workout.  I helped build an enormous snow man as well, which was about the hardest thing I did all day, but I'm not listing that either.

Run #1
  • 1h 30m 46s
  • 10.00 miles
  • 09m 04s /Mi

Up at 3:30am, layered up and out the door at 10 degrees. Was able to run in the middle of the roadway for most of the run, as the sidewalks were nothing but a twisted ankle and broken leg with all of the snow and ice on them. A few idiot cars refused to move over a little bit, even though there was only me and them and GOD out there. Got home and my middle layer was wet and had iced up a bit. My face was the only thing to get even slightly cold. I wore my biking pants, which are a bit thicker and warmer, which worked out very well. Oh, my tongue did get a little cold. Stupid winter!

Run #2
  • 1h 26m 22s
  • 10.00 miles
  • 08m 38s /Mi

On tready at work, AFTER work.
Whew.

06:10  Ok, got my first 10 mile run in for the day this morning.  I'll do the second one after work on the treadmill.  It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!

17:40  Second 10 miler ran.  I'm kinda tired.

February 6

Run
  • 1h 16m 43s
  • 10.00 miles
  • 07m 40s /Mi

On tready at work. Several inches of snow and ice outside.

Gots me a 10 mile pace run on tready of the mill after work.
Tomorrow I have a 20 mile run....and here's my problem.....piles of snow and ice are everywhere.

Sooooooooooooooo, here is tomorrow's plan.  Instead of coming home from work at 3 and doing 20 miles through snow and ice covered sidewalks and roads, I'll get up at 3:30am, go do 10 miles, which I should be able to pull off right down the middle of the road on a SUnday morning.  THEN, after work I'll come home and do 10 again.  How does that sound?

February 5

Swim
  • 32m 55s
  • 1600.00 yards
  • -----

4 X 100 skps
3 X 200 pull
2 X 100 easy hard
4 X 50 easy hard alt
8 X 25 1 easy, 3 hard, rpt

Watched some videos on swimming today, and 3 "experts" each showed 3 different ways of forearm placement during the pull/push. Very confusing. Called Mimi for clarification, and I think I've got it now. Geez! I'm only doing it slightly different, but apparently engaging some different muscles, because I was getting tired faster.

Tonight, after work, a swim is planned, although we are supposed to get 200 feet of snow layered with several inches of ice.  The forecast is for armageddon.  Perfect.

February 4

Sport
  • Spinning Class
  • 1h 10m

Gave a spin class to Amy and Marc after work AT work. I did about 20 minutes waiting for them, then gave each about 25 minutes.

So...I have a 20 mile run on Sunday, but between now and then, it's possible several inches of snow, along with a helping of ice, may fall on my area of living.  Winter marathons are not an easy thing to train for this time of year while living in this part of these United States of America.  Next week begins taper O rama....

Ok...I finally broke down and ordered some new running shorts.  My Pearl Izumi's were getting loose (compression) and beginning to have a smell that would NOT go away, even after being washed.  YIKES!  2XU's, I hope you work well.
