A Wookie's Tri.

I am a barge. Swam a down and back at Kailua Beach today. I say that I am a barge because my coworker's 12yo daughter swam the Rough Water Challenge today (2.4 mile OWS off of Waikiki Beach) in 65 mins. Very humbling.
The return trip for my swim was pretty rough in itself. I was going against the wind and swells which makes for a very bumpy ride. I started feeling nauseous on the return but I'm not sure why. I had this burning wretching feeling in my stomach that I can only describe as the same feeling you get when you eat the last bit of crumbs and salt from the bottom of the bag of those big hard beer pretzels. I'm not sure if I swallowed to much salt water or the motion of the swell was making me sick.
Oh, I also discovered that I lost my tinted Kaimen goggles. I think I left them on top of my car last week after my 2000m swim at Ala Moana. Dang, now I have to buy MORE gear!
Definitely feeling it in the legs today after yesterday's run. I wanted to do a long ride today but I'm working instead (couldn't pass up the holiday overtime). Not sure if I'll try and fit in a ride this evening since there will be more traffic in the afternoon and the beers will have been flowing all day for many of the drivers out there. I'm also a little worried about getting another flat. The tires furndog gave me are nice but I think my weight might be a little to much for them. I really need to get some beefier tires that can withstand the 260 lbs I apply to them.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FURNDOG!
Furndog turns 29 again today. I wanted to treat him to 42+ miles of pain but I couldn't pass on the holiday overtime pay. Have fun with your wife and kids on your Bday, bro! ;)
EDIT: Picked up a set of Specialized Armadilo tires today. Hopefully this will greatly reduce the number of flat tires I'm experiencing. Tubes are gettting expensive.
Legs are starting to feel better. 2hr bike tomorrow with a short 20min brick run.

30m on trainer in zone 2.
Good run today at the Kalaeloa 20k. Ran the entire way and turned in a negative split on the second loop. Race Report to come.

Today will be an active recovery day. I'll put the bike back on the trainer and maybe spin for an easy 30-60 mins while watching TV. Legs are a little sore from the ride the other day and I want to work out the lactic acid before tomorrow's 20k run. Plus, I can try out my new aerodrink for position.
Tomorrow's run should be an experience. I'll be happy with a time in the neighborhood of 10min/mile. I have to remember to drink more than I'm use to as well as taking in a bit of nutrition along the way. I know I don't drink enough when running or biking so this will be my focus in the coming weeks as I extend my times and distances.
Oh, I think I've decided against doing the Ko OLina Sprint Tri this year. The registration is a little pricey for a race that doesn't really appeal to me. I'm not to cool on the idea of spreading out the swim over 3 lagoons forcing the racers to run from lagoon to lagoon.

OWS at Ala Moana Beach Park. Had a headwind on the way back. Also, lost a little time on the way back when I stopped to look for furndog who took an unintended detour. Good swim, felt good the entire way.
Planning a 2000m OWS at Ala Moana Beach Park with furndog. Might throw in an easy 2-3 mile job around the park afterward.
EDIT: Why, oh why did I go to Island Triathlon & Bike today? I haven't been in there in quite a while and to my suprise (or maybe demise) I saw that they now carry Cervelo and Quintana Roo. They had in stock a P3 in 61cm with an Ultegra mix that was just so schwing! and a Caliente also in 61cm. The QR was equally as intoxicating as the P3 and I honestly don't know which I'd prefer.
I think I can turn this into a motivating force for my next 12 months of training and racing. I think I'll use the reward of a new bike to intice me to keep consistant in my training and a full season of races to measure my progress. Furndog and I have already decided to make the Honu 1/2 IM our "A" race for '07. If I keep this promise to myself and feel good about my performance I'll walk into IT&B with a fist full of cash and walk out with a new bike.
Oh, I did pick up a new Aerodrink bottle and mounting bracket, new cycling gloves and a new seat bag.

Well, the streak continues. 2 flat tires again today for the Wookster. The first was a blowout right in front of furndog's house as we were leaving. The second was at about the 1/3 of the way mark. All in all a good ride. Not near as fatiging as last week. We had fewer stops although our overall speed doesn't show it.
Max Speed: 40mph
Total Calories: 2847
Total Ascent: 2320ft
Total Descent: 2312ft
This was a brick run after the bike but I messed up and didn't hit the start button on my 305 to measure the run. It was short and slow even though my HR was screaming above LT most of the way. I wish I had recorded it. Have to do it again next week!

August 30
30 mins on trainer in zone 3 while dinner was cooking. I just didn't have any gas today.
The legs are feeling a bit crispy today. I expected as much. Yesterday's workout wasn't over the top by any means but I'm not use to anything that isn't slow trudging. I know that after I drop another 10-20 lbs those intervals will feel much better. I took the wife out for pasta at Zia's Kaneohe last night. Neither of us liked it much though. Mine seemed to be loaded with oil/fat, the service was slow and I watched a full water pitcher of water walk back and forth past our table while my water glass was empty. I felt like saying, "Hey! I just did 6 miles of intervals and in case you didn't notice water is the ONLY beverage I ordered!" So often when we go out for dinner we usually come away thinking we could have done better at home.
Not sure what I'm going to do for a workout today. I have lots of running around to do after work with a few short breaks in between errands but not really long enough for a workout. I'm thinking pool but I think I'm over-committed today. This might be a forced rest day.

Today I was scheduled for a 2+ hour bike ride, big gear climbs with a cadence of 60-70 and spinning on the flats at about 100. I don't have a cadence sensor so I can only go by feel. I did what I could. I did 4 laps around old kam and kahekili.
Max Speed: 38.8 mph
Total Calories: 2953
Total Ascent: 2895 ft
Total Descent: 2984 ft
I followed the bike immediately with a 20 min brick run. Actually, I felt okay coming off the bike... suprisingly.
