This was kind of funny, possibly the fastest "in-and-out" for a rcae I've had. I was working late to go to the race at 7pm but when I left work it was chucking down with rain but I swung by the park anyway just as the rain was stopping. I called Bob at 6:58pm to say I was stopping to do the race and ran over to see if I could still reg and the guy said hte course setter was still out. So I changed really quickly in the car, jogged over to the start, plonked down my $2, signed the waiver, we walked to the start and we were off! No warm up. I thought it was ging to suck but I actually went out pretty fast - felt like I was really running and I was vaguely near the front. Heard a gal coming up behind me and managed to pull away on a downhill. Then she caught and passed me so unusual for me, I tucked in on her shoulder and tried to stick with her as I thought there would other women behind me that she could maybe tow me away from. I slipped back a bit - maybe 3-4 yds and then tried to close the gap on the uphill finish but just missed her. This course is where I always get a good max HR read as the finish is usually uphill across the meadow - tonight was a new max: 187bpm! And it felt like it too! but I really felt like I cruised so hopefully that is a good sign that I am getting some speed - too bad it wasn't measured accurately as I would;ve liked to have known. Jogged a little after and then stretched and then waited for awards. Was walking back to the car at 7:37 pm - raced, warmed down, stretched, awarded and leaving in 39 minutes!

Called Stamford Y today - the pool is closed indefinitely. Can't believe their lax lifeguarding has now jeopardized the existence of the whole Y in Stamford. Now I have to find somewhere else to train.

Was going to ride but then a bunch of thunderstorms rolled thru' so waited and then went running. A new angle on the Westside Campus run. Up the big hill, down the back, turnaround at the gate and run back up the hill and back the way you came. Time up hill #1 (0.7 mile) = 7:02 (167bpm), split at the gate = 23:57, 2nd hill (0.9 mile) = 8:17 (172bpm). Temps hot and super humid - had just been a big thunder storm after a hot day and the roads were steaming - just crazy humid - I was knackered. Legs felt full and heavy - mot sure why as have only worked out (run) once since the race - had a busy week last week so maybe it was rust.

Got a call Friday afternoon for a cancellation at the student clinic today. Just took it as a gravy and didn't give the gal any goals to work on. Was good to get it though as lots of things felt tight after the race especially upper back/neck (maybe from riding in the drops when I haven't been doing that?)
