Mt Airy - Tiger/Clayton
Our sixth BRAG is done and so far, I haven't had time to dwell on the end of one of the best weeks of the year.
From 30,000ft of altitude, experiences like this are the ones that stick - certainly in my memory bank, but I rather suspect in the kid's, too. Because he's approaching an age where his body is primed for maximum fitness, he's naturally strong(plus he cycled 3000miles last summer) and so he's making up ground on his old man in leaps in bounds. I really can't help but think that only a jerk would have a problem watching his son getting better at the hobby they share. For my own part, I could not possibly be happier.
Today's ride was the shortest of the week but the first 20miles were tough, including one out-of-the-saddle, zig-zagging-from-one-side-to-the-other bit of ugliness that went on for nearly a mile. The last five to ten miles are kind of a victory lap, so we weren't in any rush...
I helped load the semi with bikes and we headed off to retrieve the car in Fort Oglethorpe. It was the hardest week of riding I've had in a LONG time and I'm gonna need to to get my head around what's next.

Roswell - Winder
Longest ride of the week, hills eased up, kind of, and temps continue to be gentle. When I think back to last year's towering inferno, we are getting off easy this year. I can not believe the kids did an x-country ride, with 50lbs of gear, in terrain basically like we're riding in, with temps over 100' most of the time...
My legs lost their will to fight days ago - the endless series of rollers, with some real bitch-of-a-hill's to climb has taken the starch out of the muscle tissue. Tommy is pulling about a third of the time and I welcome it because he keeps my pace honest. There are a few riders I've noticed who look strong, but for the most part, we're having our way with the other riders, again..Makes me feel like a stud beating up on those grandmothers on recumbents and hybrids..lol.

Roswell optional ride day...
Not only didn't do the full century, but did not even do the 62 mile..Ha! About five miles in, climbing yet one more hill, I decided I wanted to re-frame my objectives for the day in such a manner that would allow for as little riding as I could get away with while retaining a shred, just a shred, of my dignity. 49 mile option it is...
