April 17

Flying to San Antonio this morning for memorial service, then back to Denver this afternoon. If I could swich biking for flying then I'd be getting in a ton of training miles this year. Today's going to be pretty tough.

Home to top of Lookout Mountain, down backside to I-70, then back over top and home.

Beautiful Easter day. Couldn't have been much more stunning. Nice relaxed morning followed by big ride up Lookout Mountain with Kirk, Susan, and Sharon.

Wash Park 1x + home block.

I think this is a PB for Wash Park 1x and training 10k. Ready to put down sub 45:00 10k in BolderBoulder if traffic clear. Three days off prior to run helped. Sugar-free Red Bull at start may have created GI trouble at finish. Friend took off in his helicopter the other night and clipped some power lines. Helicopter burst into flames, killing another friend's wife, and critically injuring others. Another friend (burned over 90% of his body) taken off life support yesterday. Pilot burned from waist up -- to be hospitalized for the next three to four months while undergoing severe burn treatment, including skin grafts. Trying to get to funerals on Monday in Austin and San Antonio. I'm so sorry for the 4 and 7 year old children who lost their mother, and I'm just extremely weary of tragedy. I thought that 2005 was the end of it, but I suppose there's no escaping these things.

Packing up final posessions at grandparent's Dallas home and they're being loaded onto the moving truck to be sent across the country. Beautiful day here to end a real family era, I supppose. Feel like running, but not in a training sort of way.... Hope to fly home tonight and get back to normalish over the Easter weekend.

Day in Dallas spent with movers working on VLC estate. Sad and stressful, actually. Maybe home tomorrow, maybe not. It would be nice to be home for a weekend of running and biking, as that might be a pleasant distraction from all this.

Couldn't wake up this AM for a lousy 30 min. run. So, Tulsa conference room all day, followed by flight to Denver only to change planes for Dallas. Ate really bad food though, so hard day of intestinal tract training plus lately declared "recovery day" for all other body parts.

Nice little cruise along Arkansas River. Modestly attractive with lots of interesting urban art by kids. Incredible headwinds -- the kind that really messed up Dorothy and Toto, I think.

Tried to get up at 5:30am for bike ride. That didn't work. Despite scale screaming bloody murder, still dining on Quarter Pounder and fries at Denver airport en route to Tulsa. Have to figure out something to do at hotel other than raid the mini-bar and pass out before event tonight. Do treadmills exist in Tulsa, or is Oklahoma just one big treadmill? We'll soon find out....
