Mentally, I need to re-do Saturday's workout. So I got up this morning and did it. (shortened warm up and cool down for time sake) Much better result. Bonus: I came up with a new mantra: "there is no quit in me." (a variation on "there is no 'I' in 'team')

FAIL!
supposed to be 2 x 4 miles with mile warm up and cool down. Legs very fatigued and sore from Thursday's speed work (mostly from the burpees and squats) but no excuse. Pace is supposed to be 7:50 per mile. Negative self-talk started in about 1/2 way through mile two and went down hill from there. Went to some pretty dark places and by mile 4 I had essentially given up. I turned around a mile short because decided it was just a waste of my time. In middle of mile 5, with my pace stumbling towards 10/min mile, ran into Lisa and we had a nice talk about her qualifying for Worlds. This kind of snapped me out of my negative spiral. After that just told myself to improve and try to stay at least in the eights. I did. Instead of last mile cool down I ran last mile hard and managed to get my best mile of the day.

Couple of lessons from today:
1. My goal for the Marathon is a pipe dream right now.
2. My mental fitness is horrible.
When I was out there I thought #1 was true because of my physical abilities. However, as I think about it is really about #2. We all have off days for whatever reason, but instead of trying to make the best of it, I quit on myself. I am glad I snapped out of it and salvaged things a bit. However, I will never hit my goals until I get my mental game into shape. If I have any hope of reaching my goals, it is going to take mental fortitude. I need to figure this out quick.
