3 x 4 mile loops around the neighborhood

No running today. If weather holds out most likely a bike ride. I have actually missed my bike.  Wow, the mountains must be good for weight loss too. I am 150.5 today. I have not been that light in a long time, like maybe college.  While we were on vacation my daughter commented how everyone was in shape. She said, there are no fat people out here.

UPDATE was desperate to get on my bike, but it was just me & the 10 1/2 old, so I did 3 loops around the neighborhood and checked in with her each loop. She thought it was great.

Well back to reality at sea level. Don't think I realized how bad I needed this vacation.  Feel refreshed and ready for action. Action on the training front is, surprise, a run (8 miles I think).

UPDATE I love my first run out of the mountains. Mmmmmm Oxygen!!  This felt great. I actually PR'ed my 10K time (49:32) by nearly a minute. I don't know if it counts if it is in the middle of an 8 mile training run. I believe this is also a PR for 8 miles too. Really effort was not all out, but moderate.

UPDATE #2 Oh and as we talk about PRs, I passed last year's total run mileage (which had been a PR for distance) today...and I did it in 5 less hours. Not bad.

Pure. Joy.

This ranks as one of the top 5 runs of my life. Everything was an intensity of senses.  Started out with a 1 mile warm up. I needed a warm up as the temp was 35. Then I headed to trail that starts out in the park behind my condo.  The trail starts up a large hill with a series (8) of steep switchbacks between .05 and a 10th of a mile each.  I did that twice, usually stopping at each switchback. At the top of the 'hill' was a trail that went along a ridge. The trail up there was relatively flat but full of rocks and roots. On one side was a steep drop off. The views were beautiful. The intensity of running along this ridge at 8/mile pace, knowing if I tripped I would fall 100's of feet down, was amazing to say the least.  After my second trip up the hill, I went the other way on trail, into a deep forest of tall pines. Again I had to focus hard on the rocks and roots to prevent a fall. Then back down the trail, smiling the whole way.

Was supposed to be 8. Decided I would do 6 on paved path and then 2 on mountain hiking trail. Well about mile three it started to rain, then about mile 5 it started to thunder and lightening. Decided it would not be a good idea to head to trail. As I got back in town, thunder stopped and rain slowed to drizzle so I kept running around town to get closer to mileage. By the time I finished temps were in upper 40s so I was pretty chilled. Still, even a miserable day in the mountains is still a good day. :)

Supposed to run 13 today, but my legs and lungs just didn't have it in them, so this is what I did. Mile 5 was on rugged hiking trail, rest on paved multi-use trail. Temp was 36 when I started!
